Angry Youths burn police officer’s residence in Edo

Some youths in Evbuomama community in Ikpoba-Okah Local Government Area of Edo have set ablaze the residence of a police officer following the death of one, Glory Imarogie. The  News Agency of Nigeria  reports that the deceased was said to have died in a hospital after he was allegedly tortured at the Edo Police headquarters. He was said to have been arrested after he had an altercation with his landlord, a serving police officer, SP Austin Ehiziegbe. His landlord was said to have been annoyed because late Glory’s niece celebrated her birthday at his residence without his permission. A fracas was said to have ensued between the landlord and his tenant when the deceased and his brothers resisted attempts to stop the birthday party. SP Austin allegedly invited policemen from the Anti-Cult Unit and told his colleagues that cult members had invaded his residence to celebrate a birthday party. The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has returned from his overseas trips amid the crisis in the State. Ortom had travelled out of the country as part of his 12-day vacation. Speaking at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on his return after he cut short his vacation to address the security situation in the state, the governor vowed that Benue would never allow intruders take over their land. He said, “The fact that we in Benue have chosen to be law-abiding does not mean that we are weak. I call on every Benue man and woman to remain resolute. The enemies cannot take our land away from us.”

BREAKING: Herdsmen attack church, kill two priests, 17 others

Armed herdsmen, on Tuesday  morning attacked St. Ignatius Quasi Parish Ukpor-Mbalom in Ayar-Mbalom community of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, killing two Catholic priests and 17 other worshipers. Our Correspondent gathered that the attackers also burnt down  over 100 houses during the attack and sacked the entire community. The attack came barely four days after the murder of ten persons by herdsmen in Guma Local Government Area and the destruction of several  houses by men suspected to be military personnel in Naka, Gwer West Local Government Area of the state. Most of the victims were attacked while coming from morning mass.

Man in court for intimidating wife

A 35-year-old man, Hamza Nuhu, was on Tuesday arraigned at a Kano Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly beating up and intimidating his wife, Fatima Hassan. Nuhu, who resides at Bachirawa Quarters Kano, is facing a two-count charge of criminal force and intimidation. The accused, however, denied the allegations leveled against him. The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 and two reliable sureties. Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, Insp. Pogu Lale, had informed the court that Fatima Hassan, of the same address, lodged a letter of complaint at Metro Area Police Command Kano, endorsed by a Magistrate Court on March 30. He said that about one month ago, the accused who is the husband to the complainant beat her up without any reason and threatened to deal with her by all means till he sees her end. The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 265 and 397 of the penal code respectively.

Unilag Student Arrested For Stealing Her Boyfriend’s ATM Card To Buy Iphones

A final year female Unilag student was arrested today for stealing her boyfriend’s ATM card and using it to buy an iPhone 8 and X on Jumia. According to reports, the lady bought other items on Jumia too. However, her boyfriend, in collaboration with Jumia, traced the buyer to Unilag’s Moremi Hall where the delivery was made.  That was how the suspect was arrested and handed over to the school’s DSA. An eyewitness said: “It appears, she's been scamming guys with her friends for a long time. When the Jumia officials came to the hostel, she hid the phones in a bag and threw them in the dustbin. The girl is actually using an iPhone 7 Plus. However, upon realizing what was happening, the boyfriend demanded that the case be dropped.”

Information reaching us has it that Students in the faculty have been stagnant for over 5 years without professional examination to qualify them for clinical training in the teaching hospital. The College of Health Science has three sets of medical students of which two are still in 200level (A and B) and the other 300 level. The state had earlier set up a committee in December 2016 to work within six weeks and give them feedback, but the committee was reported to have worked for 12 months. The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) says it has commenced its nationwide indefinite strike. Obisesan Oluwatuyi, general secretary of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), disclosed this in an interview with NAN on Wednesday in Abuja. Oluwatuyi said the workers will not call off the strike until the government meets their demands. He said: “The soldiers have been let loose, no retreat, no surrender until the government does the needful.” JOHESU had earlier issued a strike threat through Josiah Biobelemoye, president of the union. Biobelemoye had attributed the industrial action to the “insensitivity and lackadaisical attitude of drivers of the health sector”. Suspected bandits on Wednesday attacked two villages in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State , killing some people . The Cable reported that the suspects attacked a mining site at Kuru - kuru village and also ambushed some people from the neighbouring Jarkuka village as they mobilised to bring help to Kuru - kuru . A witness, Sadi Musa , said scores of people were killed at the mining site on Wednesday evening which forced the miners to flee for safety . A Japanese police officer was arrested Thursday for allegedly shooting a colleague dead , a rare fatal gun crime in a country where weapons are strictly regulated .
