The presidency has ordered immediate arms procurement of critical equipment for the armed forces in line with the Federal Government policy of purchasing such items from the original manufacturers on government-to- government basis. A THIEF WHO HAD STOLEN A LAPTOP BELONGING TO A UNIVERSITY STUDENT, HAS WRITTEN A MAIL TO THE STUDENT EXPLAINING WHY HE DID IT.  In what will come across as a really surprising development, a thief has written a mail to a university student whose laptop he stole.  The development was made known on Twitter by one Stevie Valentine who claimed that the person whose laptop was stolen is his flatmate. In the mail, the thief apologized for stealing the laptop and also went on to state that he is extremely poor and needed money so badly he had to take the laptop. The thief who said he was willing to send back any important files on the laptop also revealed that he left the owner’s phone and wallet, with the hope they will make up for the stolen laptop.

Justice Daniel Longji of the Plateau state High Court in Jos, has sentenced a 24-year-old man, Godwin Banchir, to death by hanging, for beating his 65-years-old mother to death just because she failed to respond to his greetings. Bachir was first arraigned on June 6th 2016 and charged with culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code punishable with death upon conviction. He is was said to have committed the crime on Jan. 21st 2016, when he used a stick to beat his mother to death. Banchir in his confessional statement said that he returned from the farm on the said date and found his mother sitting in the compound and when he greeted her, she ignored him. He said that infuriated him and he picked a stick and hit her.  “I got angry when she did not respond to my greetings, so I picked the stick of an axe and hit her around her ribs. “She fell down and started shouting, which attracted our neighbours who came to beat me up and later took me to the police s

As the Federal government continues to debate whether or not to increase the miniumum wage from N18, 000 to N30, 000, the South African government has gone ahead to increase that of it's civil servants from N97, 495 to N126,480 per month. South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, who signed the new minimum wage into law yesterday November 26th, said the new wage would take effect from January 1st 2019 and would benefit about six million workers that currently earn R3,700 (N97,495). One South African Rand is equivalent to N26.35. This means South African workers would be earning N527 per hour: N4,216 per day and N126,480 per month. Their Nigerian counterparts currently earn N75 per hour, which is N600 per day (at eight working hours per day) and N18,000 per month. Recall that the sytate governors and the labour unions have been at loggerheads over the demand for the increase in minimum wage. Zamfara State High Court sitting in Gusau, has sentenced a serving member of the State’s House of Assembly, Lawali Attahiru Dogonkade, to four years imprisonment over an alleged N31 million fraud.   Dogonkade who was arraigned today by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on a four-count charge bordering on conferring corrupt advantage on himself admitted guilt before Justice Bello Shinkafi, thereby leading to his immediate conviction by the court.   The convict, representing Kauran-Namoda Local Government in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, was accused of using his position to confer corrupt advantage upon himself in a N31, 290, 000 contract meant for the supply of medical equipment to the State Government in violation of Sections 10, 12 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.   Counsel to ICPC, Mashkur Salisu, in one of the counts told the court that the convict received N4.5 million from the

A man bought a second-hand storage unit at an auction and was shocked to find £5.8million cash inside it after it was opened. This shocking discovery was made public by auctioneer Dan Dotson who hosts US television show Storage Wars. It was Dan who auctioned off the storage unit to the lucky buyer.   A young Nigerian man committed suicide this week. Tolulope Abodunrin suffered from depression and had tried committing suicide before but he survived. Sadly, he went through with it this week. The police in Adamawa state have arrested 23 year old Abubakar Yahaya, pictured above, for chopping off the wrist of one  Mohammed Jafar, following their dispute over a girl named Mariam Boni. According to the state police command spokesperson, Othman Abubakar, the suspect and Mariam were lovers and when their relationship crashed, Mariam started seeing Jafar. Abubakar became jealous and made several attempts to persuade Mohammed from seeing Mariam. For failling to heed his several warnings, Abuabakr arranged with his friends and they ambushed Mohammed on November 21st. They beat him up and during the attack, Abubakar used a matchete to chop off Mohammed's hands. The case was immediately reported to the police and Abubakar was arrested. The police spokesperson said the suspect will soon be arraigned in court.

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 20th November 2018 as public holiday to mark the Eid-El Maulud celebration. This was made known by the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen (rtd) Abdulrahman Dambazau who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement signed by the permanent secretary Dr. M.B Umar, he urged all Muslim faithful to align themselves with the prophet’s teachings which border on piety, charity, tolerance and peaceful co-existence, among others. While calling on all Nigerians to uphold these virtues, with a view to overcoming the current national challenges facing the country, Gen. Dambazau assured that the Federal Government remains committed to the unity of the country and as such, will put adequate structures on ground towards ensuring that the forthcoming general elections are credible, free and fair.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday approved for the commencement of a suit seeking an order of mandamus to compel the police and the Department of State Services to prosecute certain individuals for allegedly aiding the escape of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu,  from Nigeria and putting pressure on the military to produce him.     Justice John Tsoho , in a ruling on an ex parte application, granted leave to the plaintiff,  Isiah Ayugu , to commence the suit, which he filed on October 31, 2018 Ayugu had described himself as a tax-paying, responsible Nigerian and lawyer. The judge, who fixed November 22 for the hearing of the suit, ordered the suit to be served on the defendants the DSS, its director-general, the police and the Inspector-General of Police.   The suit is seeking the arrest and prosecution of a former Minister of Aviation,  Femi Fani-Kayode  and those who stood sureties for the bail granted Kanu by the court in April 2017.

The Abuja police command have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly disguising as a woman to lure men at nightclubs in Abuja. The suspect,  Iliyasu Omika , a native of Kogi State who stays in Tungan Maje in Abuja, was among 15 suspects paraded by the FCT Police Command on Wednesday for allegedly luring men at nightclubs into amorous relationships while disguised as a lady. Police said he was arrested at a brothel in Mpape on November 5 around 5am “after his supposed client raised alarm upon discovery that he was actually a man and not a woman as he claimed.” When speaking with journalists, Omika denied the allegations but admitted that he met the man in a bar while he was with his sisters. He explained that the complainant offered to buy him drinks, but he turned down the offer because he does not take alcohol.  According to him, he and his sisters were in the bar to look for jobs, but the man informed him that they could get employment at the bar. “I was in a ba

Earlier today, Ikorodu road in Lagos was temporarily closed as a tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit fell and spilled its content on the road.   The tanker, which fell at Kosofe area of Ketu caused a gridlock as Lagosians coming from Ikorodu were stuck on the road.  Lagos State Fire Service announced the temporary closure of the road while advising road-users to make use of alternative routes.   “If you're coming in from Ikorodu towards mile 12, Kosofe, Ketu. Road is temporarily shut down. Loaded Fuel Tanker fell,” a tweet on the LASG Fire Service handle read. The Fire Service noted that emergency units are on ground and working to avert a fire incident.out

A man is lucky to be alive after narrowly escaping death following a mishap which occurred on Wednesday, September 12th in Imo state. According to Stephen Chidiebere Anoro from Owerri, Imo state, a portion of the house (the ceiling) fell on his brother while he was in the room but he narrowly escaped the tragedy and came out alive. An excited Stephen took to Facebook to share a footage showing aftermath of the incident as he wrote;  Friend and friends make una follow me thank God for savings the life of my brother yesterday being 12th September 2018.. Last year, four occupants of a two storey building on Fire Service/Mbaise Road died after the building collapsed at the early hour on Sunday. Five other occupants of the building were, however, rescued but they sustained various degrees of injuries.
