Police officer among suspects arrested for stealing road construction materials

A police officer is reportedly among the five suspects arrested on Sunday morning, February 13, for allegedly stealing materials being used in the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Express Way along Mombasa road, Kenya.    Thomas Odira Musasa, the officer attached to the Criminal Investigation Patrol Unit (CIPU), was on Saturday deployed to guard the Express Way but instead led four civilians to the construction site where they were caught stealing the materials.   Other suspects arrested are Andrew Kones Ntikiya a guard at the construction site, Ephantus Mwangi a driver and owner of the motor vehicle that had been loaded with the stolen goods, Samuel Kariuki and Samuel Mutembei. The suspects stole pipes from the site worth Ksh275,200.   The police said that the suspects were nabbed by police officer Peter Lang’at who is also from the CIPU division. Lang’at and his colleagues were on mobile patrol along the expressway around 4am when they came across the suspects loading

The NDLEA has released a video evidence after declaring suspended police officer  Abba Kyari wanted for drug trafficking .   LIB reported earlier that Kyari is accused of taking out 15kg from 25kg of cocaine which him and his team intercepted after arresting some traffickers that came into the country from Ethiopia. He is also being accused of offering to give an NDLEA officer a cut from sale of the cocaine.   In the video shared, Kyari who was wearing a face mask was seen having a discussion with an NDLEA officer in Hausa. At some point in the video, he handed over dollar notes to the anti-drug trafficking agency official.   Narrating what allegedly transpired, the NDLEA said in a statement;   The saga started on Friday, January 21, 2022, when DCP Kyari initiated a call to one of the NDLEA officers in Abuja at 2:12 pm. Single mother of five's kidney 'stolen' in Saudi Arabia

A Ugandan woman has reportedly had her kidney "stolen" in unclear circumstances while working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.   38-year-old Judith Nakintu, a single mother of five who had separated with her husband was recruited in 2019 by Nile Treasure Gate Company, based in Kiwatule, a Ugandan city suburb, as a housemaid to work in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.   She arrived Jeddah on December 12, 2019.  Two months after she had left, her family was informed that she was involved in an accident, although no further details were given.   Her younger brother, Robert Kadichi said at first, she was communicating with her family until she went silent.   On March 17, 2020, the family received information that she was in a critical condition. They tried to reach out to her boss asking him to send them photographs of her, but he reportedly blocked them.   For some time, there was no information about Nakintu’s condition, until October 30, 2021, when the family received a call from Nil

A homeless man in Utah allegedly slit a woman’s throat after she let him into her home to take a bath, police said.   Officers responded to a call of a woman heavily bleeding from the neck around 5 p.m. last Sunday, Feb. 6, at her home in Salt Lake City. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. Her condition was later upgraded to stable, but her current condition is unknown, cops said. The woman told investigators she let the man, later identified by police as 30-year-old Eric Jones, into her home to bathe. Jones was located by city police around 1 a.m. Friday morning, Feb. 11, and later booked at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of aggravated assault.

Patient dies after fight in Hospital as another patient is arrested on suspicion of murder

A patient has been arrested for murder after a fight in a hospital ward led to the death of another patient.   Staff at Rotherham District General Hospital, in South Yorkshire, called police after the brawl broke out between two of the patients at 8.54pm on Saturday, Feb. 12.   Officers have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of murder, after a 48-year-old man died from his injuries in the early hours of this morning, Feb. 13.  Police have launched a murder investigation. A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said the man’s family are being supported by specialist officers after yesterday’s tragedy.  They added: "Officers were called by a member of hospital staff at 8.54pm reporting that two patients had been fighting. "One of the patients, a 48-year-old man, died of his injuries in the early hours of this morning. Death toll in collapsed Yaba building rises to 5

The death toll at the site of the collapsed three-storey building in the Yaba area of Lagos now stands at five.  The bodies of the deceased persons were recovered from the rubble of the building which collapsed on Saturday, Feb. 12.  One of the lifeless bodies recovered on Sunday, Feb. 13, was that of a student on industrial training, raising the death toll to five.  As of Saturday night, three people had been confirmed dead.   Two people were rescued alive, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Public Relations Officer, Okunbor Nosa said. The building on Akanbi Crescent, close to the University of Lagos, Yaba, was under construction when it collapsed on Saturday.  First responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations.  According to the PRO, the recovered persons from the rubble were two adult males while the "five dead persons were also males".

Delta state govt shuts down school where 19-month-old baby died after being flogged by his teacher

The Delta State Government has shut down a primary school in Asaba following the death of a 19-month-old pupil, Obina Udeze.   Baby Obinna died from injuries sustained after his teacher, Emeka Nwogbo, allegedly flogged him last Monday February 7, leaving marks on his body. The little boy fell ill and was admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba where he died on Saturday, February 12.   Reacting to the sad incident, the state Commissioner for Basic Education Chika Ossai, said the investigation showed the school was not approved by the state government. He said the school has been shut down as the proprietor does not have an operational license.   The accused teacher is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing.

Residents gathered to stare in amazement at a Bible that was not destroyed after a fire destroyed a car and everything in it.  The fire incident occured in Onitsha,  Anambra state.  The fire affected at least 3 cars parked in front of a compound and everything in the cars were destroyed.  However, a Bible left inside one of the cars was not destroyed in the fire, residents claim.  In a video shared online, spectators are seen clapping as a man lifted the Bible and commented that it didn't burn, despite everything else burning in the fire.

Canada-based Nigerian doctor suspended for hugging and blowing kiss at co-worker

A Canada-based Nigerian doctor identified as Efe Ovueni has been suspended from medical practice for three months for unprofessional conduct.   The medical doctor accused of hugging and blowing a kiss at a co-worker, admitted carrying out the act without her consent during a College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta tribunal hearing.   The doctor had called the member of the medical office staff into his office on Jan. 21, 2020 and proceeded to hug the woman four times and blow a kiss at her.   Following the incident, the doctor sent several texts to the employee including messages of "Hope you are not mad with me?" and "I got too excited."   The victim responded with "That's OK, but it was going too far" which prompted an apology from the doctor followed by "Thank you for…your smile."   The doctor's suspension was announced on Thursday February 4 by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) tribunal, follow

Four arrested for setting Obasanjo's farm ablaze

Four persons have been arrested for allegedly setting former President Olusegun Obasanjo's farm ablaze.   The suspects linked to the fire at the farm located at Howe district of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State where improved varieties of mango and other crops are cultivated in large quantities, were arrested days after authorities in the state vowed to fish out the perpetrators for prosecution.   It is also coming after Kehinde Akinyemi, former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s spokesman, described the incident as a bad development.

The Nigerian Army, 81 Division, has revealed that there will be a 21-artillery-gun salute to honour the late Ernest Shonekan.   The Division’s spokesperson, Osoba Olaniyi, made this known in a signed statement, adding that the salutation will hold on Friday, Feb. 4, at Ebony Vaults and Garden, Ikoyi, Lagos State.   Mr Osoba told those who live and work around Ikoyi not panic on hearing the gunshot salute. 1993 Ernest Shonekan, who served as head of the Interim National Government (ING) from August 26, 1993 to 17 November 17, 1993, died on January 11, 2022, at the age of 85.

Michigan school shooter,  Ethan Crumbley plans to pursue an insanity defense for his alleged role in the Oxford High School mass shooting that killed four Oxford students and injured seven others, according to a court filing on Thursday February 3. "Please take notice that ... Ethan Crumbley intends to assert the defense of insanity at the time of the alleged offense," his lawyers, Paulette Loftin and Amy Hopp wrote in the one-paragraph filing in Oakland County Circuit Court. The filing now paves the way for Crumbley to receive a psychiatric evaluation, which has not yet been done and is needed to pursue an insanity defense. Oakland County Prosecutor, Karen McDonald previously stated that she has no reason to believe that Crumbley's mental state would affect his ability to face charges. Jamaica are set to lodge a complaint with FIFA over claims they played against two coronavirus-positive Costa Rica players in Wednesday's World Cup qualifier.   Jamaica Football Federation medical chief Dr. Guyan Arscott told The Jamaica Gleaner six people from Costa Rica's travelling party - including two players who faced the Reggae Boyz - tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival in Jamaica on Tuesday February 1.   Now JFF general secretary Dalton Wint has confirmed the body is aware of the issue and will consequently make a formal complaint to FIFA on the matter. 'I don't know what we can appeal, but I am sure I will be sending something to FIFA to enquire as to why this happened because this is an absolute breach of the rules,' Wint said.   Arscott added: 'I can confirm that there were six Costa Ricans that tested [positive for Covid-19]. Three were non-players and three were players.   'One player was isolated because his test was deemed to b
