Death toll in collapsed Yaba building rises to 5

The death toll at the site of the collapsed three-storey building in the Yaba area of Lagos now stands at five. 

The bodies of the deceased persons were recovered from the rubble of the building which collapsed on Saturday, Feb. 12.

 One of the lifeless bodies recovered on Sunday, Feb. 13, was that of a student on industrial training, raising the death toll to five. 

As of Saturday night, three people had been confirmed dead. 

 Two people were rescued alive, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Public Relations Officer, Okunbor Nosa said.

The building on Akanbi Crescent, close to the University of Lagos, Yaba, was under construction when it collapsed on Saturday. 

First responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations.

 According to the PRO, the recovered persons from the rubble were two adult males while the "five dead persons were also males".

US government increases work and student visa fees by 15%

The United States government has announced a hike in fees for certain non-immigrant visa applications (NIV).   The 15 percent increment affects the student visa, exchange visitor visa, petition-based non-immigrant visas for temporary workers and treaty applicants.    The statement released on the bureau of consular affairs website, travel.state.gov, and on the websites of US embassies and consulates, reads;    “These increases were published in the federal register on March 28, 2023, and will be effective on May 30, 2023. INEC warns of fake online registration portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has alerted Nigerians of the existence of a fake online site urging Nigerians to enroll for "voter card pvc" registration.   This comes barely 24 hours after INEC announced the suspension of voter registration across the country.   The fake online portal claimed that the Federal Government has approved PVC registration online to avoid the unnecessary crowd in the "NIMC".   INEC warned that the site is not linked to the Commission and the link/portal is spurious and from a dubious source.   The Commission said INEC is the only body constitutionally and legally mandated to conduct the registration of persons qualified to vote in any election in Nigeria and to update and revise the register when the need arises.   It reiterated that the Commission is solely responsible for organizing, undertaking, and supervising national elections in the country and does not share this responsibility with anybod...
