Death toll in collapsed Yaba building rises to 5

The death toll at the site of the collapsed three-storey building in the Yaba area of Lagos now stands at five. 

The bodies of the deceased persons were recovered from the rubble of the building which collapsed on Saturday, Feb. 12.

 One of the lifeless bodies recovered on Sunday, Feb. 13, was that of a student on industrial training, raising the death toll to five. 

As of Saturday night, three people had been confirmed dead. 

 Two people were rescued alive, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Public Relations Officer, Okunbor Nosa said.

The building on Akanbi Crescent, close to the University of Lagos, Yaba, was under construction when it collapsed on Saturday. 

First responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations.

 According to the PRO, the recovered persons from the rubble were two adult males while the "five dead persons were also males".

Nollywood veteran actor, Mr Ibu, finally goes home.

After a long battle with blood clotting on his leg, veteran actor, John Okafor aka Mr Ibu has died. The actor passed away in a hospital in Lagos state on Saturday, March 2.  According to family sources, the actor has been on life support after he underwent a second surgery for his ailment recently. The family source said that his blood pressure has been over 200 after he had the surgery and that efforts were being made to stabilize it before he sadly passed away this evening.  The actor battled with constant clotting of blood on his leg (diseased blood vessels) and other health challenges for years. In October 2023, he came out publicly to seek financial assistance to treat his ailment. There were plans to fly him abroad for further medical care but that plan was aborted by his doctors who believed he wasn't fit to fly. Applicant Dies Inside Ikoyi Passport Office Toilet

An applicant seeking Nigerian international passport has died in Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) Passport office, Ikoyi, Lagos. The applicant was said to have arrived the passport office at about 7.am in company of his wife and they were asked to wait till 9.am when they would be attended to. It was gathered that at about I0.am, the man became restless and started complaining of severe heat and discomfort. He, however, requested to use the rest room. However, trouble started when he didn’t come out of the toilet after about half an hour and his his wife became very worried. Man Arrested For Dressing Like A Female Sex Worker

The Abuja police command have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly disguising as a woman to lure men at nightclubs in Abuja. The suspect,  Iliyasu Omika , a native of Kogi State who stays in Tungan Maje in Abuja, was among 15 suspects paraded by the FCT Police Command on Wednesday for allegedly luring men at nightclubs into amorous relationships while disguised as a lady. Police said he was arrested at a brothel in Mpape on November 5 around 5am “after his supposed client raised alarm upon discovery that he was actually a man and not a woman as he claimed.” When speaking with journalists, Omika denied the allegations but admitted that he met the man in a bar while he was with his sisters. Tinubu sends second ministerial list today

President Bola Tinubu will today send a new batch of ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening,  The PUNCH  has learnt. According to a very reliable source in the Senate, the names would either come on Tuesday night or very early on Wednesday morning. The source exclusively told our correspondent that the names of the new batch of ministerial nominees would be read at the plenary today. The lawmaker added that the screening of the 28 nominees will be concluded today so that the next batch can be screened thereafter. “By Wednesday, the new set of nominees will be unveiled, so that by Monday, we will be through with their screening. “We want to conclude with the screening before we go on our recess.
