Delta state govt shuts down school where 19-month-old baby died after being flogged by his teacher

The Delta State Government has shut down a primary school in Asaba following the death of a 19-month-old pupil, Obina Udeze.

 

Baby Obinna died from injuries sustained after his teacher, Emeka Nwogbo, allegedly flogged him last Monday February 7, leaving marks on his body. The little boy fell ill and was admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba where he died on Saturday, February 12.

 

Reacting to the sad incident, the state Commissioner for Basic Education Chika Ossai, said the investigation showed the school was not approved by the state government. He said the school has been shut down as the proprietor does not have an operational license.

 

The accused teacher is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing.

Police dismiss Boko Haram members’ arrest in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral social media claim alleging that 488 Boko Haram members were recently arrested in the state, warning residents against the spread of misinformation capable of triggering panic. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the command clarified that the video being circulated alongside the claim was an old broadcast recorded over 11 years ago and does not reflect the current security situation in Abia State. Many injured as NAF airstrike hits Borno, Yobe border market

An airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force has reportedly resulted in civilian casualties at a market along the Borno–Yobe border. ‎ The incident occurred on Saturday evening at Dilli Market in Yobe State, near Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. ‎ The Yobe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the development to PUNCH Online but said no official casualty figures were available as of the time of filing this report. NBA star Brandon Clarke has d!ed at age 29.   Clarke's de@th was announced on Tuesday, May 12,  by his team, the Memphis Grizzlies, and his agency, Priority Sports.
