Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr coach has claimed the forward will 'go back to Europe' before retiring from football.    The superstar player only secured a move to the Saudi Arabian side last month in a big money deal.    Now his own coach Rudi Garcia has suggested that the five-time Ballon d'or winner will have one final stint in Europe before hanging up his boots.   According to SPORT, Al-Nassr head coach Garcia said: 'Cristiano Ronaldo is a positive addition as he helps disperse defenders.    The 58-year-old manager added: 'He's [Ronaldo] one of the best players in the world. "I still believe in love" - Ugandan man speaks after court ordered his ex-fiancée to pay $2,500 for breach of promise to marry him after paying her school fees

A Court in Kanungu District, Uganda has ordered a woman to pay her former fiancé more than Shs10 million (about $2,500) as compensation for breach of the promise to marry him.    Court records show that Richard Tumwine and Fortunate Kyarikunda, both teachers started their love relationship in 2015 and that the duo later entered a promise to marry agreement in 2018.   The court also heard that Tumwine, a teacher at Kiringa Primary School, financially supported Kyarikunda- including sponsoring her for a diploma in law at the Law Development Center (LDC) where he spent more than Shs9.4 million.    Kanungu Grade One Magistrate Asanasio Mukobi held that since the promise to marry was not fulfilled by Kyarikunda to the detriment of Tumwine, then he is entitled to re-imbursement of his Shs9.4 million spent on her.   Mr Mukobi also ordered Kyarikunda to pay Shs1milllion to Tumwine as general damages for inconveniences and psychological anguish suffered....

Roma manager, Jose Mourinho believes Victor Osimhen is on the same level with former Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba.   Osimhen scored a superb goal as Napoli defeated Roma 2-1 on Sunday night January 29, to extend their lead at the top of the table to 13 points.   Speaking at a press conference after the game on Sunday night, Mourinho was asked about the comparison between Osimhen and Drogba.   “He is of the same level as Drogba, but Didier didn’t dive,” replied Mourinho.   “If Victor changes, then okay. I’d buy him if I was at a club with a lot of money. However, if he does go to England one day, he needs to change, because in Italy they put up with this sort of behaviour, whereas in the Premier League, they’d come down hard on him.”   Osimhen is currently the leading scorer in Serie A with 14 goals from 16 matches.   His compatriot, Ademola Lookman is second with 12 goals.

Man throws father into well over land dispute

A 60-year-old man has been left fighting for his life at Longisa County Referral Hospital after spending three days inside a 20 feet well his son threw him into.    Samuel Tanui from Emitiot sub-location, Chepalungu Sub-County, Bomet County, Kenya, was thrown into the well by his son following a land dispute.    According to area Assistant Chief Lenny Ngeno, Tanui had earlier refused to grant his 22-year-old son Charles Kiplangat Rotich permission to sell the family land and it is speculated this pushed his son into hatching a plan to kill him.    After throwing him into the well, Rotich went about his daily business thinking that his father was dead.    The elderly man managed to wail hard enough for some of the passersby to hear him and that was when he was rescued. He was then rushed to a hospital.

Police gun down two members of dreaded armed robbery-kidnapping gang in Delta, recover AK47 riffles

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have neutralized two suspected armed robbers/ kidnappers during a gun duel in Udu Local Government Area of the state.    Spokesperson of the command, DSP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday. Suspended Abuja-Kaduna train service resumes

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has said that the suspended Abuja-Kaduna train service will resume operation from Tuesday, January 31.    Recall that train service on that route was suspended on Friday, January 27, after a train derailed at the Kubwa station in Abuja.   Director of Operations, Niyi Alli also said that contrary to its initial trip schedule where two trains depart Abuja and Kaduna daily, the corporation has adjusted the number of trips for Wednesdays to one from each end.   The statement read;    “The Board and Management of The Nigerian Railway Corporation is pleased to announce the recommencement of the Abuja Kaduna “Train Service was suspended on Friday 27th January 2023 due to the derailment that occurred at Kubwa Station on the same date. “Subsequently, the Service will resume on Tuesday 31st January 2023 with the following daily schedule; KA2 departs Rigasa at 0700, Ak1 departs Idu at 10.00, KA4 de...

CBN extends deadline for use of old naira notes

The  Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)  has announced a 10-day extension of the deadline for the use of old naira notes across Nigeria. The CBN governor, who spoke to journalists Sunday morning, said he had the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari for the extension. The new deadline is now 10 February instead of the former 31 January deadline, he said. Mr Emefiele spoke in Daura, Katsina State, after a meeting with the president who is in his home state for official duties. Mr Emefiele said Nigerians, who are yet to change their naira notes from the old to new ones, now have an opportunity to do so. He said people must utilize the opportunity because the deadline will not be extended again. PREMIUM TIMES reported how the CBN last October introduced redesigned 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes and gave a deadline of 31st January for the use of the old notes. INEC to test BVAS with mock accreditation exercise on February 4

The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) will carry out a mock accreditation exercise on the 4th of February.   The exercise will be carried out to test the efficacy of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25.   Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who disclosed during a meeting with all the 37 Resident Electoral Commissioners in the country on Friday, January 27, said the machines used for the mock exercise will be reconfigured in preparation for the main elections.   Mahmood noted that the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) is one issue INEC officials must look into, adding that the Commission will not hesitate to take other measures to ensure that all who registered get their PVCs.

Two ex-convicts and others arrested for vandalizing eleven electricity transformers in Bauchi

Former Barcelona and Brazil defender, Dani Alves has reportedly been signing autographs for fellow inmates in prison.    Alves, 39, is in prison in Spain after being detained by local police and jailed without bail pending trial over an alleged sexual assault of a woman in a Barcelona nightclub.    The alleged victim filed a complaint earlier this month and the case remains open, Catalonia's court system said in a statement last week.     Spanish outlet Telecinco reported that Alves - who was denied bail by a Barcelona judge due to the perceived high risk of him leaving the country, has been signing autographs in prison.   The report said how one former inmate showed a shirt signed by the 126-time Brazil international upon leaving jail.   The unnamed inmate didn't share a cell with Alves but got his shirt signed through another prisoner.   He also revealed how the right-back was accepted in priso...

Police arrest six men men for raping 12-year-old girl in Bauchi

Man crushed to death by telescopic urinal while he worked

A man who became trapped underneath a urinal in central London this afternoon, has died.   The workman had been operating on a "telescopic urinal" at Cambridge Circus, outside the Palace Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue this afternoon, Jan. 27, when he suffered "crush injuries", police said.   Efforts to rescue him from the structure went on for more than an hour-and-a-half. Sadly, he didn't survive.   This model of hydraulic urinal, designed to stop public urination, is stored beneath the pavement during the day and lifted up to street level for people visiting at night.

A Nigerian woman, Rahama Asma'u, has died barely one month after her wedding.    Asmau and her husband, Umar Maigari Dingyadi, got married on Saturday, December 31, 2022.    She died on Thursday morning, January 26, 2023, in Sokoto State.    Her husband is said to be the son of Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, the current Minister of Police Affairs.    She was laid to rest today according to Islamic rites.

A disabled 14-year-old who was raped by her own uncle has been refused an abortion in Poland, sparking outrage in the conservative country.   Two separate hospitals in her region of Podlasie have reportedly refused to treat her or even tell her where she could receive a legal abortion, a violation of their law.   The Catholic nation has some of the strictest laws on abortion in Europe, and doctors can even refuse to provide them on ethical grounds. Pope Francis has declared homosexuality a 'sin' but not a 'crime' while condemning the 'unjust' laws which criminalize gay people.   In an interview on Tuesday, the 86-year-old said God loves his children just as they are and called on bishops to support the laws to welcome LGBTQ people into the church.   He told the Associated Press: 'Being homosexual isn't a crime.'   He acknowledged Catholic bishops in some parts of the world support laws criminalising homosexuality or discriminate against the LGBTQ community and referred to the issue in terms of 'sin'. The Enugu Police Command has reunited a lost-and-found 23-year-old student, Comfort Ifunanya Chukwugbo, with her mother.   The student of the Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) was rescued by a Good Samaritan who found her wandering at Obe in Nkanu West LGA and taken to Ozalla Police Division on Friday, January 20, 2023.    She was reunited with her mother on Tuesday February 24, just hours after police appealed to the public to help locate her family members.   Spokesperson of the command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe said the mother, Mrs. Benedicta Chukwugbo revealed that Comfort left a prayer house in the Inyi community in the Oji River Local Government Area of the state, where she had been since December 31, 2022, following her state of mental imbalance.   According to Mrs Chukwugbo, her daughter started suffering from mental inbalance in 2020 after she attended and came back from a wedding ceremony in Abuja.    "The Enugu State Police C...
