Shun hard drugs, NYSC DG advises military cadets

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps , Brig . Gen . Suleman Kazaure , has warned cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna State, against the use of hard drugs, which was said to be a common practice in the academy .
Kazaure gave the advice in Abuja on Thursday , while receiving 37 NDA cadets from the Department of Computer Science, who came on a tour of the NYSC’ s Information and Communication Technology facility .
The DG urged the cadets to be diligent during the ICT tour , noting that every aspect of the military activities and operations had been computerised .
The NYSC DG , Kazaure, said , “ Gentlemen, avoid drugs . I know it is common in the academy . I used to serve there . But you must shun every form of bad character in life generally .
“ During my time , a lot of cadets started but only very few of us remain till now . You must try and be careful throughout your career . Therefore , avoid drugs.
“ As computer students , you must take note that everything is now computerised ; from our payroll to our weapons. Therefore , to get to the peak of your career , you must be up and doing .
“ In September 2017, you were admitted and very soon , you will pass out as officers. You will then serve either as an instructor, an officer or a commander . Your goal is to reach the peak of your career which is to be a general . You have to be careful and there is no shortcut. ”
The NDA Head of Department , Dr . Phillip Odion, who presented a commendation plaque to the DG , said the visit was to familiarise with the NYSC ICT facilities , noting that the tour was insightful.
Odion said , “ We have visited the NYSC ICT centre and the director has briefed the cadets on the ongoing activities . One of the things he told us was that the centre had been opened on Monday for the registration of prospective corps members.
“ The cadets learnt a lot from the tour of your facility and we want to appreciate you for receiving us . ”
