Fake Naira notes are in circulation – NSCDC


The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has raised an alarm of fake redesigned Naira notes being in circulation. 


Commandant-General of the corps, Ahmed Audi, who stated that this has become worrisome, vowed to ensure the prosecution of all those involved. 


Audi further disclosed that in less than a month, the corps had arrested and seized fake Naira notes worth millions from members of syndicates in different states in the country.


The NSCDC Commandant-General who advised Nigerians to deal with banks especially when large sums are involved, added that the fraudsters took advantage of the low circulation of the redesigned Naira notes to massively produce counterfeit notes.


The NSCDC Commandant-General said; 


“Many innocent Nigerians must have fallen victims to their scheme while they collected bank money transfers and exchange of foreign currencies.

“The arrest of this syndicates will help us fish out more criminals who have decided to take advantage of the economic situation in the country to scam people.”

US government increases work and student visa fees by 15%

The United States government has announced a hike in fees for certain non-immigrant visa applications (NIV).   The 15 percent increment affects the student visa, exchange visitor visa, petition-based non-immigrant visas for temporary workers and treaty applicants.    The statement released on the bureau of consular affairs website, travel.state.gov, and on the websites of US embassies and consulates, reads;    “These increases were published in the federal register on March 28, 2023, and will be effective on May 30, 2023. The fee for visitor visas for business or tourism (B1/B2s and BCCs), and other non-petition based NIVs such as student and exchange visitor visas, will increase from $160 to $185.  “The fee for certain petition-based nonimmigrant visas for temporary workers (H, L, O, P, Q, and R categories) will increase from $190 to $205. INEC warns of fake online registration portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has alerted Nigerians of the existence of a fake online site urging Nigerians to enroll for "voter card pvc" registration.   This comes barely 24 hours after INEC announced the suspension of voter registration across the country.   The fake online portal claimed that the Federal Government has approved PVC registration online to avoid the unnecessary crowd in the "NIMC".   INEC warned that the site is not linked to the Commission and the link/portal is spurious and from a dubious source.   The Commission said INEC is the only body constitutionally and legally mandated to conduct the registration of persons qualified to vote in any election in Nigeria and to update and revise the register when the need arises.   It reiterated that the Commission is solely responsible for organizing, undertaking, and supervising national elections in the country and does not share this responsibility with anybod...
