President Tinubu appoints Zacch Adedeji as acting chairman of FIRS

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Zacch Adedeji as the new Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

 

A statement released by Ajuri Ngelali, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, says the President has directed the erstwhile FIRS Chairman, Muhammad Nami, to proceed on 3 months of pre-retirement leave, as provisioned by Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, with immediate effect, leading to his eventual retirement from service on December 8, 2023.

 

‘’Hon. Zacch Adedeji is hereby appointed in acting capacity for a 90-day period before his subsequent confirmation as the substantive Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service for a term of four (4) years in the first instance.

Hon. Zacch Adedeji is a first-class graduate in accounting from the Obafemi Awolowo University. He most recently served the nation as the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, following meritorious service terms as the Oyo State Commissioner of Finance and as the Executive Secretary / CEO of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).''the statement read

 

The statement added that the new appointment takes immediate effect.

The Federal Government has cautioned opposition politicians against making claims it says could damage Nigeria’s reputation internationally amid criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris issued the warning in a statement addressing public debate over Tinubu’s decision to delegate Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation. Idris said Tinubu is currently on annual leave and maintained that his decision to send Shettima to the UN gathering should not be interpreted as diminishing Nigeria’s diplomatic standing. “President Tinubu is currently on annual leave, and his decision to ask the Vice President to lead Nigeria’s delegation is neither unusual nor a diminution of the country’s diplomatic standing,” Idris said.
