Coronavirus: Schooling Continues In Akwa Ibom- Governor Emmanuel Udom says

Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom states has said that there are no plans to shut down schools in the state due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In a state wide broadcast delivered on Saturday morning, Governor Udom said that there is no confirmed case of COVID-19 disease in Akwa Ibom State and that as a matter of fact, the measures put in place at the state airport to curb the spread of the virus into the state, is comprehensive and has no parallel anywhere in West Africa. He appealed to residents of the state to adhere strictly to preventive measures so they do not contact the virus. WAEC postpones 2020 WASSCE till further over notice of corona virus

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has postponed the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates for 2020 until further notice due to the spread of coronavirus.  Patrick Ehidiamen Areghan, WAEC's head of national office in Nigeria, on Friday, March 20, said that the examination earlier fixed to begin on Monday, April 6, across member nations will no longer be conducted as planned, The Nation reports. In a statement on Friday, Areghan said:  “This decision is a demonstration of the organisation’s concern and support for the various protocols being put in place by the federal and state governments of Nigeria and the governments of the other member countries to check the spread of the disease." He added that upon the improvement of the global health circumstances that necessitated the postponement, a new date will be fixed and announced to the public.

Women's Premier League schedule changed in Nigeria

The commencement of the 2020 Nigeria Women's Premier League season was scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 but it will now take place a week later, according to the organisers, The expected decision taken by the board was surprisingly not due to the increasing spread of coronavirus which already hit 148 countries, with Nigeria confirming its third positive case on Tuesday. In a letter to clubs on Tuesday, the Nigeria Women's Football League secretariat announced the shock postponement 24 hours to the country's women's top-flight season. In a release Ayo Abdulrahaman, the NWFL board's Chief Operating Officer explained the development was owed to a few reasons, including the inability of clubs to offset their debts. While apologising for the late postponement notice, he further assures they will comply with the new kick-off date. Hypo partners FAAN, donates 100 cartons of products to prevent coronavirus

The Hypo Hygiene Products Limited, Lagos, says it has partnered with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to contain the spread of Coronavirus disease in Nigeria by donating 100 cartons of Hypo bleach. Akinseloyin said the gesture was in line with the company’s commitment to promoting environmental hygiene to reduce outbreak of diseases through its brand of bleach. Appeal Court stays execution of judgment sacking Oshiomhole as APC National Chairman

The Appeal Court which made a U-turn and heard an appeal filed by Adams Oshiomhole over his suspension as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) today March 16, has stayed the execution of the judgement issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja on March 4, 2020.  The three-man panel led by Justice Abubakar Datti Yahaha, which granted reliefs contained in an ex-parte motion argued by the lead lawyer to Oshiomhole and the APC, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), temporarily stopped the respondents from carrying out by the judgement issued by the federal high court pending the determination of a motion on notice filed by Oshiomhole and the APC. Nigerian man lands in trouble for allegedly beating his wife to coma over divorce

A Nigerian man,   Salami Olajide a.k.a Stubborn has been accused of beating his wife and mother of his three children, Salami Ruth   to coma and trying to force deadly insecticide, sniper down her throat for trying to quit their marriage of 6 years.  The incident reportedly occurred at the couple's apartment at Ijede Road in Ikorodu on Saturday March 7. Ruth, 33, who is nursing a six-month-old baby, was taken to Ajayi Hospital within the community where she is receiving treatment. The couple's landlord, Alhaji Lawal Tanimola who confirmed the incident said he discontinued his prayer and called other tenants with whom they forced the door open after hearing Ruth’s continuous call for help. He disclosed that the couple have never gone a week in their nearly-two-years’ stay in his house without fighting.  Tanimola further revealed that Salami was released by the police, barely 24 hours after he was arrested.
