Three injured as explosion rocks Port Harcourt APC rally

Three people were injured following a twin explosion that rocked a rally of the All Progressiives Congress at the Rumuwoji Playground in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.   Punch  reported that the man and two women who were injured, have all been rushed to the hospital for medical attention.   Publicity Secretary of the APC, Darlington Nwauju, confirmed the incident, describing it as ‘unfortunate’.

An aide to the governor of Borno state, Dogo Shettima, has asked parents to concentrate on raising "good children."   He gave this charge while reacting to a trending photo of a young man watching a football match inside a mosque while the Imam was preaching. Posting the photo online, Shettima wrote; ''Innalillahi waa inna ilaihir raji’un  Where are we heading to? In the mosque while the imam is preaching and giving sermons on teachings of Prophet Muhammad SAW. We need to focus on our children upbringing not material world.'' Court sentences Adamawa chief to 8 years in prison over breach of trust

Gumni Ilihu, village head of Gugu village under Banjiram District, Guyuk Local Government Area of the state, has bagged an 8-year jail sentence after being found guilty of criminal breach of trust, intimidation and mischief.   An Adamawa Magistrate Court gave the ruling following a lawsuit filed by a primary school teacher, Roel Sunaka, 47, who accused the village chief of refusing to pay up the balance from the sale of 13 sheeps.    Roel who holds the position of zonal supervisor, Bobini Primary School, Guyuk Local Education Authority, alleged that Gumni used the proceeds of his livestock to secure chieftaincy stool of Gurgu Village, in Banjiram District, under Guyuk Council.    The plaintiff also alleged that the Chief who refused to pay his debt, has been threatening to drive him out of the community.   Magistrate Hyellamada Hyellandendu who presided over the case, found the defendant guilty of criminal breach of trust, section 302, intimidation and mischief under sectio

Teenage girl remanded in prison for torturing her 15-year-old friend over boyfriend

A Tanzanian teenager has been remanded to Luzira Prison in Uganda for allegedly torturing her 15-year-old friend, Pretty Nicole, whom she accused of falling in love with her boyfriend, one Derrick Lwanga.   LIB  reported  that Queen Kaftah,18, and a group of other girls still at large, beat up the minor, slapping, kicking and dragging her on the floor in the house.    Kaftah was on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, arraigned before Kira magistrate's Court in Kampala and charged with aggregated torture of her friend, Pretty Nicole, and inflicting grievous bodily harm contrary to section 2 (1) (b) and 5 (a) (h) (j) (k) of the Prevention of Prohibition of Torture Act 2012.   She was arrested last week after a video recording, which showed them torturing the teenage girl, went viral on social media.   Prosecution states that Kaftah and others still at large on January 8, 2023 in Nsasa Kira Municipality in Wakiso District inflicted injuries on the juvenile, causing her grievous har

Suspected armed robbers killed in Delta state

Two armed robbery suspects have been killed in Delta state.   A statement released by the the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Bright Edafe, says on January 13, the police acted on a tip-off that some suspected notorious armed robbers who have been on the command's wanted list over their involvement in a foiled robbery operation on June 23, 2022 in Orogun community, were seen gathered within the Unukpo - Orogun palm tree plantation.   Edafe said the DPO of Orogun division in a proactive move to forestall another attack, mobilized and led police operatives to the area.   ''As they were approaching the scene, the hoodlums opened fire on the Police which the police equally responded. A 99-year-old Kenyan man, Johana Maritim Butuk, has married his girlfriend, Alice Jemeli, 40, after 20 years of dating.   The lovebirds tied the knot in a colorful wedding ceremony in Soy, Uasin Gishu County on Saturday, January 14, 2023.    When they first met in 2003, Jemeli was only 20 years old and Butuk was 69. Despite their age differences, their love blossomed as they dated.   The nonagenarian proposed to Jemeli in December 2022 and plans of a wedding ceremony started.   According to The Standard, it was Butuk's first marriage since he has never dated a woman for the 99 years he has lived. The death toll from a Russian missile strike in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro rose to 40 on Monday, January 16 with dozens more missing, making it the deadliest civilian incident since Moscow started attacking civilian targets three-months ago.   Ukrainian officials acknowledged on Monday there is little hope of finding anyone else alive in the rubble of Saturday's attack in Dnipro, but President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the rescue in the central Ukrainian city would go on "as long as there is even the slightest chance to save lives". Man escapes death as huge boulder crushes his car after he stepped out to take a phone call

A California man escaped death when he stepped out of his car to take a phone call moments before his car was crushed by a large rock.   Mauricio Henao said he was parked on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu when he got out of his car to answer his phone.   Shortly after he stepped out of the car, he heard the "loud crashes" of the rocks on the hillside behind him starting to slide, according to KTLA 5.   "I was in the driver's seat, walked out, got a call, ran back inside, came out, and the car was just totaled," Henao told KTLA. "I ran out and saw my car just crushed."   A four-foot boulder crushed the roof of his sedan as rocks and debris obstructed four lanes of traffic, KTLA reported.   "The rock is the size of the whole hood," Henao told KTLA. Suspected armed robbers kill Uber driver in Abuja

An Uber driver identified as Afam has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers in Kubwa, a satellite town in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).   A source privy to the incident told Daily Trust that the incident happened close to AJ lounge near NNPC junction in Kubwa.   The source said the victim sold electronics but work as an Uber driver at night.   "The guy went to AJ lounge. Former Afghan lawmaker Mursal Nabizada and her security guard were shot dead at her home in Kabul early Sunday morning, Jan. 15, according to Kabul police.   The shooting took place around 3 a.m., local time on Sunday, according to local police chief Molvi Hamidullah Khalid.   Nabizada represented Kabul in Afghanistan’s parliament from 2019 until the government was overthrown by the Taliban in August 2021.   She was one of the few female former lawmakers who remained in Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover.   Nabizada’s brother was also wounded in the attack, Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said.   The police spokesman said an investigation to determine who carried out the attack is underway.   Sunday’s shooting is the first time a lawmaker from the previous administration has been killed in the city since the Taliban seized power.   "Rising insecurity is of grave concern," the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan wrote in a statement condemning

Former 'American Idol' Contestant CJ Harris has passed on at the age of 31.   TMZ reported that Harris who made it to the top 6 in 2014, suffered a heart attack Sunday night in Jasper, Alabama, and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance but didn't make it.   The singer will be remembered for the 2014 audition where his version of Allman Brothers Band's "Soulshine" blew judges away.    Following his incredible audition, CJ rocked America with powerful versions of "Too Close," "American Woman," and "Free Fallin'." Young man kills his girlfriend for allegedly cheating on him, burns himself to death in Rivers

A young man identified simply as Babe Face, allegedly killed his girlfriend and set himself ablaze at the Kom Kom axis of Oyigbo in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.   According to an eyewitness, who spoke to Daily Trust, Babe Face had invited his lover to his house located over the weekend.   The witness said trouble started when Babe Face questioned the deceased for cheating on him with another man.    The source said that when the deceased could not offer a satisfactory explanation for the allegation, he pounced on her and strangled her to death.   In a bid to cover his tracks, Babe Face set the apartment ablaze and was burnt to death alongside the corpse of his girlfriend.   “The incident happened at the weekend in Kom Kom axis of Oyigbo. However countering the claim, Lotti's lawyer, Bradford Cohen claimed that his client and her boyfriend tried to scan their items in the self-checkout aisle on Saturday, January 14 and believed they'd rung up everything until a security guard detained them at the door. The Katsina State Police Command has rescued four kidnapped victims during raids on criminal hideouts in three villages in the state.    Spokesperson of the command, SP Gambo Isah, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, January 16, 2023, said one of the rescued victims sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.    "On 15/1/2023, at about 1030 hrs, the command succeeded in raiding criminal hideouts in Hunguma and Gozaki villages and rescued the following victims: (1) Sa'idu Alhaji Iliya, m, age 51, of Nasarawan Dankali village, Mahuta ward, Kafur LGA (2) Yusuf Umar, m, age 31 years, and (3) Abdullahi Bello, m, age 35 years, both of Bauchi state," the statement read.   "One of the victims (Abdullahi Bello) sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
