Suspected armed robbers kill Uber driver in Abuja

An Uber driver identified as Afam has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers in Kubwa, a satellite town in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

A source privy to the incident told Daily Trust that the incident happened close to AJ lounge near NNPC junction in Kubwa.

The source said the victim sold electronics but work as an Uber driver at night.

"The guy went to AJ lounge. Beside AJ lounge, there is a place where they sell phones, he was inside his car. So, he noticed that there was a group of men, up to five in number with guns and weapons, trying to break into the shop where they sell phones," the source explained.

“I don’t really know what he was doing there, but he is into Uber. So, when he noticed the people were trying to burgle the shop, he tried to start his car to run away, then they noticed the movement.

"Possibly, they thought he was trying to video or call the police then they shot. Those clubbing in the AJ lounge heard the gunshot and came out. The criminals ran away afterwards.

"Afam was rushed to the hospital but confirmed dead on arrival. I don’t know if the matter was reported to the police,” the source added.
