Cristiano Ronaldo misses out as nominees for The Best FIFA Football Awards™ 2022 is revealed

FIFA have announced 14 men's nominees for The Best 2022 World Player of the Year Award with Cristiano Ronaldo missing on the list. 

 

The award recognizes the best footballer of the calendar year 2022, and Lionel Messi heads a 14-man shortlist for the Best FIFA Men's player award after leading Argentina to World Cup glory last month.

 

Messi will have an edge to win the award, having scored seven goals in games in Qatar to finally win the World Cup. He was also given the Golden Ball after being deemed the best player at the tournament.

 

Mbappe, who netted a hat-trick in the World Cup final for France,was nominated with two Paris Saint-Germain players are nominated in Neymar and Achraf Hakimi.

 

Karim Benzema, who won last year’s Ballon d’Or for his performances with Real Madrid, is also nominated, as is Robert Lewandowski, winner of the FIFA prize in the last two years.

Nollywood veteran actor, Mr Ibu, finally goes home.

After a long battle with blood clotting on his leg, veteran actor, John Okafor aka Mr Ibu has died. The actor passed away in a hospital in Lagos state on Saturday, March 2.  According to family sources, the actor has been on life support after he underwent a second surgery for his ailment recently. The family source said that his blood pressure has been over 200 after he had the surgery and that efforts were being made to stabilize it before he sadly passed away this evening.  The actor battled with constant clotting of blood on his leg (diseased blood vessels) and other health challenges for years. In October 2023, he came out publicly to seek financial assistance to treat his ailment. There were plans to fly him abroad for further medical care but that plan was aborted by his doctors who believed he wasn't fit to fly. During the cause of his treatment, his leg was amputated in November 2023. The actor is survived by his wife and children. He was 62 years old. ...

Breaking News: Just in, Air strike kills at least 22 in Khartoum, Sudan

A Sudanese army air strike on the capital has killed at least 22 people and injured many others, eyewitnesses and an official have said. Women and children were among the victims, the eyewitnesses told the BBC. The airstrike hit the Dar es Salaam district of Omdurman, on the opposite bank of the Nile to the capital Khartoum, early on Saturday. The army and a paramilitary force have been battling for control of the capital since April. The conflict began after the head of the army, Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the head of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, fell out over the future of the country. A Khartoum state health official, quoted by Reuters news agency, said at least 22 people had been killed in Saturday's airstrike, while the RSF said the death toll was 31. Knuckleballer and 2x World Series champion, Tim Wakefield is dead. The former Boston Red Sox star passed on at the age of 57, days after former teammate Curt Schilling revealed that the longtime starting pitcher was battling brain cancer. Ex-Boston Red Sox knuckleballer, Tim Wakefield is dead Announcing his death, the Boston Red Sox said in a statement;  "Our hearts are broken with the loss of Tim Wakefield. Wake embodied true goodness; a devoted husband, father, and teammate, beloved broadcaster, and the ultimate community leader. He gave so much to the game and all of Red Sox Nation. “Our deepest love and thoughts are with Stacy, Trevor, Brianna, and the Wakefield family.” Wakefield won 200 games and retired with a 4.41 ERA. Tim struck out over 2,100 batters and earned a trip to the All-Star Game in 2009. He won two World Series in 2004 and 2007. Wakefield retired in 2011 and was later inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame.

Tinubu asks US Court to limit release of his University Records to Diploma Certificate

Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu, has objected to the release of his Chicago State University (CSU) records to the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.   Tinubu pleaded on Monday, September 25, that if the court was inclined to grant Atiku’s application for discovery, it should be limited to only his diploma certificate he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in aid of his qualification for the 2023 presidential election. In his latest plea to the court, Tinubu said; “That conclusion should be set aside and the application should be denied because the information sought cannot be used and, therefore, is not ‘for use’ in the foreign proceedings.   “Even if a narrow subset of information can be considered ‘for use’ in the foreign proceeding, that is limited to the diploma submitted to INEC.
