EFCC Arrests A Final Year Accounting Student For Internet Fraud.

The Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, April 26, 2018 arraigned one Ilesanmi Babatunde Yemi, a final year accounting student of Ekiti State University, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, on a five-count charge bordering on Advanced Fee Fraud and Money Laundering.
The travail of Babatunde, 31, followed a petition alleging that he engages in Internet love and Romance scams.

It was alleged that he poses on the internet as an American Army Officer by the name Dennis Martinez serving in Libya. The defendant allegedly engages unsuspecting ladies on the internet in a dating and romance scam through which he fleeces them of their money. The last victims were two ladies from Australia which he alleged obtained to the tune of about $500 (Five Hundred Dollars) in tranches.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

In view of his plea, EFCC Counsel, Sanusi Galadanchi, applied for a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody. 

However, the defense counsel, Olatunde Adeoye, informed the court of an application for bail dated and filed today, 26 April, 2018. He thereafter prayed the court to allow the defendant remain in the EFCC'S custody pending the hearing of his bail application. 
Justice Abdulmalik however, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Federal Prison, Agodi, pending the hearing of his application.

The case was adjourned to May 8, 2018 for hearing of the bail application.

Ray Stevenson, actor in 'Thor,' 'RRR' and 'Ahsoka,' dies at 58

British actor, Ray Stevenson, best known for starring roles in “Punisher: War Zone” and the “Rome” television show, has died at the age of 58.   Stevenson died on Sunday May 21 , four days before his 59th birthday,  his publicist confirmed in a statement. A cause of death has not been given.   The Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported he had been hospitalized on the island of Ischia while in production on the film Cassino on Ischia, directed by Frank Ciota.   The Peter Mayhew Foundation, set up by the actor who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars films, tweeted: “We are sad to hear of the passing of Ray Stevenson.   “You may recognize Ray as Baylon Skoll from the upcoming Ahsoka show on Disney+. 23-year-old man commits suicide in Lagos

A 23-year-old graduate of Business Administration from York University in Canada, Chinonso Anene, has allegedly committed suicide in Lagos.   According to reports, Anene reportedly locked himself inside his apartment at House 9, Emmanuel Court, Olusegun Aina Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi and thereafter used a pump action gun to shoot himself.    His lifeless body was discovered inside the wardrobe when police officers broke the door to his apartment. Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Benjamin Huydeyin, said;   ''The DPO Ikoyi Division received a distress call from the Chief Security Officer of Parkview Estate, Mr Daramola, that Chinonso Anene has committed suicide. Based on the report, a team of detectives visited and photographed the scene, the door was forced open and one expended cartridge was recovered. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Lagos Island morgue for autopsy while an investigation is ongoing.”

Police arrest suspected kidnappers of Alao-Ala's farm supervisor and others

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested suspected 17 kidnappers for their involvement in some recent abductions in the state.    Spokesperson of the command, Adewale Osifeso, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, July 29, said eight suspects were arrested in connection with the  abduction  of Christopher Bakare, the supervisor of a farm belonging to the late former governor of the state, Adebayo Alao-Akala.    Bakare was abducted on the farm in Jabata located in the Surulere Local Government Area of the state.    Some of the eight suspects were also said to have kidnapped the owner of a private clinic, Dr Abdurasheed Oladoye at Gbede in the same local government area. The police noted that some items including a gun and expended cartridge as well as some cash were recovered from them. Tragedy As Truck Crashes Into A School Bus In Enugu Leaving Scores Of Pupils Dead.

An unconfirmed number students have been confirmed dead in a road accident that happened on Wednesday evening, at Mmaku Hill, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. The tragic incident happened at Nkwo junction around 4:30pm when driver of Presentation Nursery and Primary school bus was conveying each students to their various destinations. It was gathered that the accident occurred after the brake of a company truck failed and rammed into a student filled school bus. A source, Spartan Arinze, told our correspondent that the students who are mostly the victims including some staff died immediately after the accident. The tragic accident also claimed the lives of a roadside tyre repairer, cyclist and mechanic, the source said.
