Boko Haram, soldiers in gun fight, as residents flee

Boko Haram insurgents, yesterday, engaged soldiers in a gun fight in Maiduguri, forcing  residents to flee their homes.

A resident, Zainab Kamali, said the insurgents struck in Jidari area of the city about 5pm.

 “We were forced to abandon our homes for the bush… there’s serious confusion,” Kamali said. 

Another resident who did not want his name in print, said the insurgents moved around the city as they were engaged by the military. 

He said the sect attempted to infiltrate the town through Polo axis but were repelled by soldiers. 

“They were at the cashew plantation axis of Maiduguri but soldiers engaged them in a serious battle,” he said. But Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Kingsley Samuel, in a statement, urged the puclic not to panic and advised them to discountenance rumours of Boko Haram presence in the state capital. “The general public is please requested not to panic and discountenance rumours of Boko Haram presence,” the statement. said.
