Nigerian Army Gets New University In Biu, Borno State

Nigerian Army gets new university
A new university has been approved for the Nigerian Army.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) gave the approval on Wednesday at its meeting.
The university will be located in Biu, Borno State.
The approval follows the presentation of a memo by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.
Mr. Adamu announced the approval while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting of the council.
The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, a lieutenant general, had earlier in March announced that the Nigerian Army will upgrade
the Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies to a full fledge University of Technology and Environmental Studies.
“The university was conceived as a unique one that will be different from conventional universities in Nigeria.
“The concept is to make it a solution provider and a centre of excellence for a variety of technologically related ventures such as generation and armament production,” the army chief said.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kaduna State Command, has confirmed an incident involving a fully loaded Liquefied Natural Gas tanker that caught fire in the Kwangila area of Zaria Local Government Area. The state Sector Commander of the corps, Mr Andrew Longkam, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday in Kaduna. Longkam said the tanker, belonging to Greenville Company, was parked by the roadside along the Funtua–Zaria road when a gas valve malfunctioned, leading to ignition and a fire outbreak. Detention: Court rules on Emefiele’s case today

The detained suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, will today, know his fate concerning the fundamental human rights suit he filed to challenge his arrest and detention by the Department of State Services. Recall that on June 10, the DSS arrested the governor of the apex bank shortly after President Bola Tinubu suspended him from office and ordered a probe of the CBN. In the suit, filed through his lawyer,  Joseph Daudu (SAN), before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, Emefiele is alleging a violation of his human rights.  Joined as respondents in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation; the Director General of the DSS and the DSS, who have filed preliminary objections, challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the case and urging that the suit be dismissed. Fourth person cured of HIV

A man who has lived with HIV since the 1980s has become the fourth person to be cured of the disease as announced by AIDS researchers on Wednesday July 27.   The 66-year-old man named the "City of Hope" patient after the Californian center where he was treated, was cured of HIV after receiving a stem cell transplant for leukaemia.   He was declared in remission in the lead up to the International AIDS Conference, which begins in Montreal, Canada on Friday.   While the transplant was planned to treat the now-66-year-old's leukaemia, the doctors also sought a donor who was naturally resistant to the virus that causes AIDS, a mechanism that first worked to cure the "Berlin patient", Timothy Ray Brown, in 2007.   As well as being the oldest, the patient has also had HIV the longest, having been diagnosed in 1988 with what he described as a "death sentence" that killed many of his friends.   He has been on antiretroviral therapy (ART) to control his conditi...

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu has urged Nigerian students to desist from cyber crimes, popularly referred to as Yahoo -yahoo and all other forms of internet-related offences that could derail their destinies. Magu stated this on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 while delivering a lecture at the University of Ilorin on the dangers of internet fraud. The EFCC boss who was represented by Head, Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences, Ilorin Zonal Office, Olamide Sadiq said anyone caught for offences bordering on internet fraud would be detained, prosecuted and jailed.
