The new president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh has said that the Muslim-Muslim ticket adopted by the ruling All Progressives Congress is a plot to make Christians second-class citizens in the country.   In his acceptance speech in Abuja after the General Assembly of CAN validated his election, Okoh said the fear was borne out of the recent happenings in the country.    He also said that it is coming at a time when Christian leaders believe that some section of political leaders are not sensitive to the diverse nature of our population when certain decisions are being made.   The new CAN President also called on President Buhari to end the bloodletting, kidnapping and general insecurity in all the geo-political zones of the country.   Okoh said;    “While thanking the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR), for his efforts to combat terrorism and b

A member of the main opposition party, PDP, who vowed to never have a haircut until President Buhari resigns has gotten his hair shaved after decamping to APC.   The former PDP member identified as Mustapha Zaki Yawuri on Thursday, July 28, decamped to the APC. He was received by the party officials who insisted they shave his hair as he joins the party.

Manchester United striker, Cristiano Ronaldo has informed the club he wishes to be relinquished from his contract to free him to join a Champions League side.   The Portuguese striker returned to Manchester United on Tuesday July 26, with his agent Jorge Mendes to discuss his future with the club after missing all of United's pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia.   The Mail report the Portugal superstar wants to be freed from the final year of his £360,000-a-week contract. Rapper JayDaYoungan shot and killed outside his home

Another American rapper has been shot and killed outside his home.   Popular Louisiana rapper JayDaYoungan, 24, was rushed to hospital, battling injuries sustained when he was shot outside a home in his home state.   A representative for the Bogalusa Police Department told TMZ they received a call just before 6pm on Wednesday night, July 27, for a shooting at a home on Superior Ave.   Cops said one victim had been transported to a local hospital by someone on scene, and another victim -who was critically wounded - was treated by paramedics and rushed to the hospital for treatment.   JayDaYoungan was identified as the one in critical condition. He lost a lot of blood and was taken in for surgery. Online reports say the second victim is a relative of the rapper, potentially his father.   Sadly, JayDaYoungan was declared dead hours later.   The rapper first found success when he signed to Atlantic Records in 2017 .

Four people die as boat carrying Police officer on waterways patrol capsizes

A Police officer and three other civilians on patrol around the Korokorosei waterways in Bayelsa State’s Southern Ijaw Local Government Area died in a boat accident on Monday, July 25.   Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of the Bayelsa state police command, ASP Asinim Butswat, said the body of the Police officer has been discovered, while the bodies of the three civilians have yet to be discovered. ''A boat transporting Policemen on surveillance capsized at Korokorosei waterways, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.” “One Policeman’s body was recovered while three are missing. The command is yet to establish the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident. Divers have been deployed to the Area for possible rescue of the missing persons.”   Asinim added that divers have been deployed to the area for possible rescue of the missing persons.

Bandits threat to kidnap President Buhari is laughable - Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Wednesday July 27, reacted to threats by bandits to kidnap President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state.   The threat was passed off by bandits in a video shared last weekend.    Reacting to this after a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Buhari at the State House, Abuja, Mohammed said the terrorists were spreading propaganda. He also added that the threat is laughable.    On threats to impeach Buhari if the rising insecurity is not addressed within six weeks, the Minister said;    “We are doing everything possible to ensure that the whole nation is well secured and it’s a matter of time to see results”.

FG set to lease three aircraft for commencement of Nigeria Air’s flight operations

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given Nigeria Air approval to lease aircraft to start operations.   The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, announced this Wednesday, July 27, while briefing State House reporters after the federal cabinet meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.   Sirika said the flight operations will first begin locally, then progress to regional and international routes going forward.   The government is mulling the takeoff, soonest, despite existing challenges in the aviation industry, especially the rising cost of aviation fuel, the Jet A1.   The Nigerian national carrier logo had been launched abroad, a few years ago, when stakeholders in the Nigerian aviation sector took to an air fair to explore options available to it for effective execution.   Sirika said, "I presented two memoranda on the national carrier to allow Nigeria to lease aircraft to start operation

Fire guts Federal Government Girls College Umuahia

Several hostel blocks at Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Old Umuahia in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, were on Tuesday July 26, gutted by fire.   The Nation reported that no life was lost in the incident which affected the school's Junior Secondary School (JSS 2) students.    They were reportedly writing exams when the fire started and it was gathered that they couldn’t save anything from the incident.   Sources within the school told the publication that the JSS 3 block was affected but occupied by the JSS 2 class as those in JSS 3 had gone home after they had finished their exams.   Cause of the fire has been attributed to an electrical fault or power surge. Security threat: FCTA orders immediate closure of private schools in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory has ordered the immediate closure of all private schools in Abuja.   Punch reports that the directive was issued to the private school owners by the FCT Education Secretariat.   A statement released by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools in Nigeria, Abuja, asked all school owners to close by today Wednesday, July 27.   “Dear school educators, instruction reaching me now from the Ag. Director DQA is that the FCT Education secretariat has directed that schools are to make sure all examinations going on should be ended by Wednesday, July 27, 2022, and all students including those in boarding should be allowed to go home for the holiday. Fourth person cured of HIV

A man who has lived with HIV since the 1980s has become the fourth person to be cured of the disease as announced by AIDS researchers on Wednesday July 27.   The 66-year-old man named the "City of Hope" patient after the Californian center where he was treated, was cured of HIV after receiving a stem cell transplant for leukaemia.   He was declared in remission in the lead up to the International AIDS Conference, which begins in Montreal, Canada on Friday.   While the transplant was planned to treat the now-66-year-old's leukaemia, the doctors also sought a donor who was naturally resistant to the virus that causes AIDS, a mechanism that first worked to cure the "Berlin patient", Timothy Ray Brown, in 2007.   As well as being the oldest, the patient has also had HIV the longest, having been diagnosed in 1988 with what he described as a "death sentence" that killed many of his friends.   He has been on antiretroviral therapy (ART) to control his conditi

Officers of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected car snatchers along Egbeda Road at about 1:30am on Sunday, July 24, shortly after they snatched a Toyota Corolla 2000 model with registration number LND-664-GF.  The suspects identified as Abiodun Nurudeen, 36, and Anthony Richard, 45, both recently released on May 05, 2022 and June 04, 2022 respectively from Ikoyi Correctional facility, were arrested following a tip-off from civic-minded members of the public.    Preliminary investigation reveals that the vehicle was snatched around Lekki, Lagos State.   Confirming their arrest to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said while investigation is ongoing, the owner of the vehicle needs to come forward with proof of ownership to claim the vehicle.   He added that the suspects would be arraigned at the conclusion of the investigation.

Police officer among suspects arrested for stealing road construction materials

A police officer is reportedly among the five suspects arrested on Sunday morning, February 13, for allegedly stealing materials being used in the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Express Way along Mombasa road, Kenya.    Thomas Odira Musasa, the officer attached to the Criminal Investigation Patrol Unit (CIPU), was on Saturday deployed to guard the Express Way but instead led four civilians to the construction site where they were caught stealing the materials.   Other suspects arrested are Andrew Kones Ntikiya a guard at the construction site, Ephantus Mwangi a driver and owner of the motor vehicle that had been loaded with the stolen goods, Samuel Kariuki and Samuel Mutembei. The suspects stole pipes from the site worth Ksh275,200.   The police said that the suspects were nabbed by police officer Peter Lang’at who is also from the CIPU division. The NDLEA has released a video evidence after declaring suspended police officer  Abba Kyari wanted for drug trafficking .   LIB reported earlier that Kyari is accused of taking out 15kg from 25kg of cocaine which him and his team intercepted after arresting some traffickers that came into the country from Ethiopia. He is also being accused of offering to give an NDLEA officer a cut from sale of the cocaine.   In the video shared, Kyari who was wearing a face mask was seen having a discussion with an NDLEA officer in Hausa. Single mother of five's kidney 'stolen' in Saudi Arabia

A Ugandan woman has reportedly had her kidney "stolen" in unclear circumstances while working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.   38-year-old Judith Nakintu, a single mother of five who had separated with her husband was recruited in 2019 by Nile Treasure Gate Company, based in Kiwatule, a Ugandan city suburb, as a housemaid to work in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.   She arrived Jeddah on December 12, 2019.  Two months after she had left, her family was informed that she was involved in an accident, although no further details were given.   Her younger brother, Robert Kadichi said at first, she was communicating with her family until she went silent.   On March 17, 2020, the family received information that she was in a critical condition. They tried to reach out to her boss asking him to send them photographs of her, but he reportedly blocked them.   For some time, there was no information about Nakintu’s condition, until October 30, 2021, when the family received a call from Nil

A homeless man in Utah allegedly slit a woman’s throat after she let him into her home to take a bath, police said.   Officers responded to a call of a woman heavily bleeding from the neck around 5 p.m. last Sunday, Feb. 6, at her home in Salt Lake City. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. Her condition was later upgraded to stable, but her current condition is unknown, cops said. The woman told investigators she let the man, later identified by police as 30-year-old Eric Jones, into her home to bathe. Jones was located by city police around 1 a.m. Friday morning, Feb. 11, and later booked at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of aggravated assault.

Patient dies after fight in Hospital as another patient is arrested on suspicion of murder

A patient has been arrested for murder after a fight in a hospital ward led to the death of another patient.   Staff at Rotherham District General Hospital, in South Yorkshire, called police after the brawl broke out between two of the patients at 8.54pm on Saturday, Feb. 12.   Officers have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of murder, after a 48-year-old man died from his injuries in the early hours of this morning, Feb. 13.  Police have launched a murder investigation. A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said the man’s family are being supported by specialist officers after yesterday’s tragedy.  They added: "Officers were called by a member of hospital staff at 8.54pm reporting that two patients had been fighting. "One of the patients, a 48-year-old man, died of his injuries in the early hours of this morning.
