Chukwuemeka Emmanuel Akachi Buried, UNN Suicide Student Funeral Photo

Chukwuemeka Emmanuel Akachi, a final year student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) who committed suicide after stating the reason for his action on Facebook has been buried, Igbere Tv reports.


According to reports gathered by Igbere Tv, Akachi, a native of Eha-Alumona in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, was said to have battled dementia for over two months.

After threatening to take his own life and two lecturers were asked by the university to monitor and counsel him, the English and Literary Studies student, later ended his life by drinking sniper, Igbere Tv reports.

The remains of Mr. Akachi has been laid to rest today. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.

Marketers demand suspension of VAT on diesel

Oil marketers have called on the Federal Government to suspend the Value Added Tax on diesel, as it would further increase the burden on Nigerians. The Chairman of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, and Chief Executive Officer of Ardova Energy, Olumide Adeosun, made the appeal during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos on Tuesday. He suggested that temporarily exempting diesel from VAT would help alleviate the financial burden for the general population, especially amidst the petrol prices hike. Senate panel to present report on Buhari’s impeachment today

The Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters is expected to present its report on President Muhammadu Buhari’s impeachment on Wednesday. The committee is looking into the approval of the payment of $496m out of the Excess Crude Account for the purchase of military aircraft. The 12 Super Tucano aircraft ordered from the United States will be delivered in 2020. The Senate had on Thursday resolved to refer the matter to the committee for legal advice, when lawmakers became divided on it. The panel was given the mandate to see whether the President violated the constitution or not. Ponmo is now dangerous - FG raises alarm about a dangerous virus

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has raised an alarm of ponmo now being dangerous for Nigerians to consume following the outbreak of Anthrax in some neighbouring countries within the West African sub-region. Nigerians have been asked to desist from the consumption of hides (ponmo), smoked meat and bush meat as they pose serious risk until the situation is brought under control.
