Atiku's Children Day message"Nigerian children must believe that things can and will get better"

Atiku Abubakar has encouraged Nigerian children not to lose hope in their country, whether or not they live here or in the Diaspora.  

Atiku gave the advice in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, in Abuja to celebrate the 2019 Children’s Day event. He reminded the children that they are the future of Nigeria.
“No matter how tough and trying the situation in the country may appear today, Nigerian children must believe that things can and will get better. This conviction will help them see in themselves the solutions to the multiple challenges our country faces.
It will strengthen them to not turn their backs on their country at a time when she needs them most, no matter how rosy life may appear in other shores. From chess champions to acclaimed artists, Nigerian children have been in the international headlines recently for exceptional achievements despite all odds. These shining lights are just an example of the potential in you, our children.”

Bank customers lose N472m to fraudsters in three months –Report

A report by FITC has revealed that bank customers in Nigeria lost N472m to fraud in the first quarter of 2023. It was also disclosed that there was a total of 12,553 cases of fraud recorded within this period. This was according to the Q1 report obtained by The PUNCH from the website of FITC. FITC’s institutional members are members of the Nigerian Banker’s Committee, which comprises the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation and all licensed banks in Nigeria. The data, however, showed a decline in losses compared to what was lost to fraudulent banking activities in Q4, 2022. According to FITC, a total of N3.18bn was lost to fraudsters across banking platforms in Q4 2022, which meant that the losses declined by 85.13 per cent in Q1 2023. Lagos clarifies sanitation modalities, warns defaulters ahead of April 25

The Lagos State Government has provided further details on the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise, set to resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026, with movement restrictions and enforcement measures in place. In a statement on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said, “The exercise will hold every last Saturday of the month between the hours of 6:30 am and 8:30 am. During this period, there will be controlled movement across the state to allow residents to carry out thorough cleaning of their homes, surroundings and drainage frontages.” He stated that enforcement teams comprising officials of the ministry, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Kick Against Indiscipline, Lagos Waste Management Authority, and local government sanitation inspectors would “conduct physical inspections during and after the sanitation window to ensure compliance,” warning that “defaulters will be sanctioned in accordance with the L...

Mobile phones to be banned in state school classrooms in UK

Headteachers in the UK will be told to ban pupils from using mobile phones during the entire school day under new government guidance. The Department for Education wants children to be barred from using devices on breaks as well as in class. Education Secretary Gillian Keegan will announce the plans at the Conservative Party conference on Monday, October 2.   The government already encourages head teachers to limit phone usage and many schools have restrictions in place.   Gillian Keegan will ban smartphones from classrooms both during lessons and in break times to ensure pupils can concentrate, the Daily Mail reported. IBEDC to upgrade metering system

The Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has announced an upcoming upgrade for its Standard Transfer Specification prepaid meters to enhance efficiency and align with global standards. The upgrade, known as Token Identification Rollover, aims to ensure the continued seamless operation of prepaid meters while maintaining customer satisfaction.  A statement signed by the Managing Director of IBEDC, Kingsley Achife, said the upgrade scheduled to take effect from August 1, 2023, would involve the integration of a global software update into STS meters, making them compatible with the new TID Rollover protocol. “This upgrade is imperative as starting from November 24, 2024; all STS meters worldwide will cease to accept old credit tokens without the necessary meter upgrade. To facilitate a smooth transition, IBEDC will provide its prepaid meter customers with Key Change Tokens alongside their regular energy tokens when purchasing electricity,” Achife said. He...

Thugs Linked To Senator Ubah Attack Capital Oil Workers Demanding Four-year Unpaid Salaries

Workers of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, who convened at Sanya Truck Park in Lagos to deliberate on their unpaid four-year salaries and unremitted pension of over 10 years, have been attacked by thugs linked to the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. The thugs were led by one Onyeka Ifemenam, a Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers official (Capital Oil VIO). It was learnt that Ifemenam had earlier had a discussion with one of the workers, Akujobi Ozoemena Barnaby, on October 5, 2020, and said he was instructed by Ubah to warn the workers to end the agitations against him or will be attacked. Two officials of the Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights, Chinedu Bosah and Rufus Olusesan, who were part of the meeting, were brutally beaten by the thugs.
