I Was Offered Money To Compromise 2019 Elections — INEC REC


The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kwara State, Garba Madami on Monday said he resisted money offered by politicians to compromise the just concluded 2019 general elections in the state.
Madami disclosed this while speaking with newsmen after his daughter’s wedding in Minna. 

There was pressure by politicians who offered me money to compromise the 2019 general elections in Kwara state but I stood my ground and refused to give in.
“The nature of our job at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is too tempting.
“It is left between you and God to do the right thing and keep your integrity or compromise and lose your integrity. You may even go to jail,” he said.
He decried money politics and a situation where politicians think they can buy peoples conscience to do their dirty work.
“The politicians have money and some of them feel that they can buy anybody with the money.
“It is a matter of integrity, it is left for you to be careful and work transparently to keep your integrity.
“What I did in Kwara state before the elections was to go on air and tell the people that no amount of money can buy me.
“I made them to understand that their votes will count and was not ready to compromise,” he said.

The Delta State Government has shut down a primary school in Asaba following the death of a 19-month-old pupil, Obina Udeze.   Baby Obinna died from injuries sustained after his teacher, Emeka Nwogbo, allegedly flogged him last Monday February 7, leaving marks on his body. Ray Stevenson, actor in 'Thor,' 'RRR' and 'Ahsoka,' dies at 58

British actor, Ray Stevenson, best known for starring roles in “Punisher: War Zone” and the “Rome” television show, has died at the age of 58.   Stevenson died on Sunday May 21 , four days before his 59th birthday,  his publicist confirmed in a statement. A cause of death has not been given.   The Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported he had been hospitalized on the island of Ischia while in production on the film Cassino on Ischia, directed by Frank Ciota.   The Peter Mayhew Foundation, set up by the actor who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars films, tweeted: “We are sad to hear of the passing of Ray Stevenson.   “You may recognize Ray as Baylon Skoll from the upcoming Ahsoka show on Disney+. FG, labour talks collapse, NLC begins strike Aug 14

Barely 24 hours after meeting with President Bola Tinubu where an agreement was reached to call off their protests, the rapprochement between the organised labour and the Federal Government appeared to have collapsed as the unions on Thursday night vowed to embark on a nationwide strike from August 14 if their leaders were summoned for contempt of court orders.  The Nigeria Labour Congress hinged its decision on the contempt of court application filed by the Federal Ministry of Justice against the labour leaders on Wednesday. It threatened to down tools should the Federal Government fails to withdraw the lawsuit accusing the labour leadership of disobeying court orders.
