The governor of Sokoto state, Ahmed Aliyu, has vowed that his administration will deal decisively with anyone who commits ‘blasphemy’ against Prophet Muhammed.   The governor issued the warning while reacting to the murder of a butcher, Usman Buda, who was killed by some aggrieved Muslims over claims he allegedly made a blasphemous comment on Sunday, June 25.   In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, Governor Aliyu warned against any act capable of “degrading the personality of Prophet Muhammad SAW, especially in a state like Sokoto, which is predominantly a Muslim-dominated community.” The governor said there’s a need for all the residents to respect and protect the prophet’s dignity and personality. A female Ukrainian sniper who has killed killed at least 10 people while fighting pro-Russian separatists, has vowed to take on Putin's troops as fears of an invasion rise.   The battle-hardened veteran Olena Bilozerska, 42, has already fought in the blown-up buildings and trenches of contested Donbas, east Ukraine but claims she is willing to do it all again to protect her country.   She says: "You take up a weapon against my country - that's it, you're a target. Foreign investments in manufacturing drops by 35% – NBS

Foreign investments to the manufacturing sector dropped by 35 per cent from $392.5m in the fourth quarter of 2022 to $256m in the first quarter of 2022, the National Bureau of Statistics’ capital importation report for 2023 Q1 has shown. According to the report, the total capital importation into Nigeria in Q1 2023 stood at $1.1bn, lower than US$1.5bn recorded in Q1 2022, indicating a decrease of 28 per cent. Despite the decrease, capital importation into the production sector ranked second with 22 per cent share of total investments, while the banking sector recorded the highest inflow of $304.5m, representing 26.89 per cent of total capital imported in Q1 2023. In recent months, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria had warned that the increasingly harsh business environment, occasioned by high energy costs, lack of access to funding, multiple taxation, among others, had scaled down investments into the sector. President Buhari receives Dapchi schoolgirls in Aso Rock.   Premium Times reports that the meeting between the girls and the president is holding at the press gallery of the state house.  The newspaper stated that the girls were flown to Abuja on Thursday, March 22, received medical evaluation and were debriefed prior to meeting the president. Lagos-Bound passengers abducted in Imo

A pandemonium ensued in Obiohuru community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State after gunmen intercepted a Lagos-bound vehicle and abducted all the passengers on Tuesday January 11.   The 14-seater bus marked “Government of Akwa Ibom State”, left Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, earlier in the day en route to Lagos, before it was intercepted.  The gunmen reportedly ambushed the bus and took the passengers to an unknown destination while their luggage were left in the vehicle. Daily Trust reported that the engine of the bus was still running at the time some youths got to the scene.  The youths subsequently alerted the police.
