Nasarawa inaugurates $2m LNG facility

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has laid the foundation for the establishment of a Liquefied Natural Gas and Liquefied Compressed Natural Gas facility in Lafia, the state capital.

The $2m investment which was spearheaded by Greenville LNG, is the first of its kind in the North Central region of the country.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project on Wednesday, Sule, who explained that the project would have a 23 metric tonnes capacity of LNG and 1,500 standard cubic meter of LCNG, said the project was in line with his administration’s commitment to make Nasarawa a prosperous and economically developed state.

The Managing Director, Greenville LNG, Ritu Sahajwalla, who was represented by the Director of Administration of the company, Joseph Oyadoyin, said the project would further crystalise the industrialisation drive of the governor and ensure rapid growth for the state.

He said, “The partnership between the government and Greenville LNG aims to promote a virtual gas supply for businesses and individuals in Nasarawa State and by extension, the North Central region of the country.

“The project will usher in the introduction of LNG and LCNG usage for heavy-duty trucks as well as smaller vehicles such as automobiles and Keke NAPEP in the region, as fuel prices has skyrocketed since the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in May.

“It is also poised to improve the transportation industry in Nasarawa State because it will address fuel shortages and enhance gas usage and distribution within the region.”

While commending the Nasarawa State government for its support and partnership, Oyadoyin added that the company would establish another facility in Karu Local Government Area of the state after the completion of the project in Lafia.

In his opening remark, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nasarawa State Investment and Development Agency, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the project would be a springboard to other businesses in the state and the North Central region of the country.
