Cops linked to admission seeker’s extortion under probe – Police

The Osun State Police Command, on Tuesday, said the policemen involved in the extortion of N20,000 from an admission seeker, Sodiq Oladebo, in the state, had been identified and were undergoing a probe of their action.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the development in a post using the command’s Twitter handle, @OsunPPRO.

The post read, “I want to update you about the case of extortion on the Ilesa Expressway. The policemen have been identified and are presently undergoing a disciplinary process. I assure you that they will be dealt with decisively. The money collected had been returned to the victim.”

The victim, Oladebo, in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, commended the police for their swift intervention on the matter.

“I didn’t know they would refund the money. I was surprised everything went well. I sent my account number to the Osun PPRO. She was the one that told me I would be refunded. About 30 minutes later, I received an alert. I was happy the money was refunded. I will go and buy my Interim Joint Matriculation Board form on Monday. The PPRO really did well. She told me the officers are now in Abuja,” Oladebo said.


PUNCH Metro had reported on Monday that Oladebo, while travelling from Osun State to Benin, Edo State, on Saturday, was extorted by some policemen along the Ilesha Expressway.

He said the incident happened after a Sienna vehicle in which he was travelling alongside others was stopped by the policemen.

He said the policemen demanded N100,000 from him but he later paid N20,000 after he said he couldn’t afford the initial amount.

According to him, the N20,000 was part of the money he was to use to purchase an IJMB form to process his admission into a university.

Ray Stevenson, actor in 'Thor,' 'RRR' and 'Ahsoka,' dies at 58

British actor, Ray Stevenson, best known for starring roles in “Punisher: War Zone” and the “Rome” television show, has died at the age of 58.   Stevenson died on Sunday May 21 , four days before his 59th birthday,  his publicist confirmed in a statement. 23-year-old man commits suicide in Lagos

A 23-year-old graduate of Business Administration from York University in Canada, Chinonso Anene, has allegedly committed suicide in Lagos.   According to reports, Anene reportedly locked himself inside his apartment at House 9, Emmanuel Court, Olusegun Aina Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi and thereafter used a pump action gun to shoot himself.    His lifeless body was discovered inside the wardrobe when police officers broke the door to his apartment. Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Benjamin Huydeyin, said;   ''The DPO Ikoyi Division received a distress call from the Chief Security Officer of Parkview Estate, Mr Daramola, that Chinonso Anene has committed suicide. Based on the report, a team of detectives visited and photographed the scene, the door was forced open and one expended cartridge was recovered. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Lagos Island morgue for autopsy while an investigation is ongoing.”

Police arrest suspected kidnappers of Alao-Ala's farm supervisor and others

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested suspected 17 kidnappers for their involvement in some recent abductions in the state.    Spokesperson of the command, Adewale Osifeso, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, July 29, said eight suspects were arrested in connection with the  abduction  of Christopher Bakare, the supervisor of a farm belonging to the late former governor of the state, Adebayo Alao-Akala.    Bakare was abducted on the farm in Jabata located in the Surulere Local Government Area of the state.    Some of the eight suspects were also said to have kidnapped the owner of a private clinic, Dr Abdurasheed Oladoye at Gbede in the same local government area. The police noted that some items including a gun and expended cartridge as well as some cash were recovered from them. Tragedy As Truck Crashes Into A School Bus In Enugu Leaving Scores Of Pupils Dead.

An unconfirmed number students have been confirmed dead in a road accident that happened on Wednesday evening, at Mmaku Hill, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. The tragic incident happened at Nkwo junction around 4:30pm when driver of Presentation Nursery and Primary school bus was conveying each students to their various destinations. It was gathered that the accident occurred after the brake of a company truck failed and rammed into a student filled school bus.
