Mob lynches Bayelsa man over bread, three arrested

The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the lynching of a 32-year-old man, Ebimotimi Freeborn, accused of stealing bread along the Tombia-Amassoma Road, in the Yenagoa area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, in a statement on Tuesday, identified the suspects as Preye Mathew, Theophilus Tiro and Famous Precious.

Butswat said, “The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the mob action by an unruly crowd, which led to the death of Ebimotimi Freeborn, 32.

“The suspects, Preye Mathew, 50, Theophilus Tiro, 28, and Famous Precious, 22, were arrested on July 9, 2023, around 5pm along the Tombia- Amassoma Road, after an angry mob lynched the suspect to death for allegedly stealing bread.

“The command condemns the action of the mob and warns members of the public to desist from taking laws into their own hands. The suspects are undergoing interrogation and would be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.”

Controversial Ghanaian relationship counsellor, Charlotte Oduro has told wives not to leave their cheating husbands.   Speaking in an interview on Kofi TV, Oduro noted that wives should learn to pamper their husbands even after they had cheated, as it would be unwise for them to abandon their home for another woman to take over.   She said; “If my husband cheats, I am not leaving him. Nollywood veteran actor, Mr Ibu, finally goes home.

After a long battle with blood clotting on his leg, veteran actor, John Okafor aka Mr Ibu has died. The actor passed away in a hospital in Lagos state on Saturday, March 2.  According to family sources, the actor has been on life support after he underwent a second surgery for his ailment recently. The family source said that his blood pressure has been over 200 after he had the surgery and that efforts were being made to stabilize it before he sadly passed away this evening.  The actor battled with constant clotting of blood on his leg (diseased blood vessels) and other health challenges for years. In October 2023, he came out publicly to seek financial assistance to treat his ailment. There were plans to fly him abroad for further medical care but that plan was aborted by his doctors who believed he wasn't fit to fly.
