Boko Haram Launches Fresh Attack On Gwoza Town


Fleeing residents of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno state have revealed that armed Boko Haram sect have on Sunday night launched an attack on the town with fear of severe casualties.

Gwoza is one of the Council areas declared as Boko Haram caliphate until it was liberated.

The incident according to sources started at about 10pm with heavy sounds of gunshots and explosions from the side of the terrorists and security operatives.

Drug addict arrested for stabbing Lagos cleric to death

A 30-year-old man identified simply as David, who is said to be under the influence of hard drugs, has allegedly stabbed a cleric, Akeem Ojiwusi, to death around Odekeye close, in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State.   PUNCH Metro  gathered that David was fond of committing different crimes whenever he got intoxicated and his actions usually put him at loggerheads with his neighbours. On the fateful day the crime was committed, Ojiwusi’s relative, who identified himself simply as Sefiu, said he was at home when the cleric sent him to buy some drugs for his treatment. Nigeria’s VAT performance lowest in West Africa – FG

The Federal Government, on Tuesday, raised concern over the performance of the Value Added Tax in Nigeria as the lowest in the West African region. While describing the development as worrisome, the government stressed the need for a change in policies, adding that the country’s VAT rate was less than one per cent to the Gross Domestic Product. The Director of Tax Policy in the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Basheer Abdulkadir, raised the concern at the opening event of a three-day workshop on the harmonisation of Nigeria’s VAT Act with ECOWAS directives. The programme was organised by the ECOWAS Commission under the context of implementation of support Programme for Tax Transition in West Africa. He noted that Nigeria, as an oil-producing nation, stands to both gain and lose from rising prices. Amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their ripple effects on global energy markets, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased the gantry price of petrol and diesel, further tightening pressure on consumers and businesses across Nigeria.
