Tipper crushes father of 30 children to death in Kogi

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, said a father of 30 children was killed when a tipper rammed his motorcycle in Lokoja, Kogi State.

 

Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, made this known to NAN in Lokoja on Monday, August 1.

 

The man, Abdulsalam Ibrahim, a 60-year old commercial motorcyclist and his passenger were crushed to death by the tipper truck at Ganaja Junction in Lokoja.

 

"The incident was tragic and very unfortunate,” he said.

 

He regretted that the accident cut short the life of the bread-winner of 30 children.

 

"The accident was a case of hit and run because by the time we responded to the distress call to the area immediately it happened, the driver and the tipper were nowhere to be found.

 

"Eye witnesses told us that immediately the accident happened, the tipper driver zoomed off leaving the victims’ mangled bodies on the road for sympathisers,” he said.

 

He said that officers deposited the corpse of man at the Morgue of Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, while that of the passenger was at Ankuri hospital morgue, Lokoja.

 

Dawulung urged motorists to always observe safety measures including speed limits.

 

Also speaking on the accident, Musa Baba-Aliyu, Chairman, Kogi Motorcycle Riders’ Association, said that the deceased rider was an indigene of Katsina and a bonifide member of the union.

 

Mr Baba-Aliyu said that Ibrahim was trying to avoid hitting a commercial tricycle (Keke NAPEP) heading towards him from the opposite direction, when the sad incident happened.

Stop $5bn annual freight to foreigners, LCCI tells FG

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the President, Bola Tinubu, to stop the revenue leakage of more than $5bn paid annually as freight to foreign shipowners. LCCI in a position paper on current matters of national economic developments signed by its president, Dr Michael Olawale-Cole, obtained by the PUNCH, said the move would help to address revenue leakages. The LCCI also frowned at the recent bid by the Federal Government to merge the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Federal Inland Revenue Service, and Nigeria Customs Services into the Nigerian Revenue Services. A 27-year-old man has gone viral after complaining that he can’t get job because he looks like a child. 20-year-old UNILORIN student commits suicide after ‘online lover’ absconded with N500,000 she lent him for his mother's 'breast cancer treatment'

A 20-year-old student of the University of Ilorin, Sanni Hameedat, reportedly committed suicide after lending a boy she met on the social media platform, Snapchat, the sum of N500,000.   Rubiks, the private hostel management she resided in before her death confirmed the incident to  Punch  in a statement on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.    According to the management, Hameedat was undergoing her SIWES programme before the incident happened.   The management asserted that the cause of her death was not unrelated to the pressure from the app agents, who were demanding fast repayment, coupled with her brother’s inability to assist her financially, which led to depression.    “The cause of suicide was traced to financial misappropriation.
