US president, Joe Biden tests positive for Covid again and goes back into White House isolation

US president, Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 again, and will now head back into isolation just days after he was cleared to resume his duties. 

 

In a memo, Biden's physician, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, said the president is experiencing no new symptoms and 'continues to feel quite well.' 

 

O'Connor had warned of the possibility of a testing 'rebound,' which can occur on a small percentage of patients who, like Biden, used the antiviral medication Paxlovid as part of their treatment against COVID. 

Biden had tested negative for COVID on Tuesday following five days of isolation, and he provided another negative test on Wednesday. He also tested negative on Thursday and Friday.  

The White House said Biden was infected by the BA.5 variant, which is responsible for a fresh surge in cases around the world.

US government increases work and student visa fees by 15%

The United States government has announced a hike in fees for certain non-immigrant visa applications (NIV).   The 15 percent increment affects the student visa, exchange visitor visa, petition-based non-immigrant visas for temporary workers and treaty applicants.    The statement released on the bureau of consular affairs website, travel.state.gov, and on the websites of US embassies and consulates, reads;    “These increases were published in the federal register on March 28, 2023, and will be effective on May 30, 2023. The fee for visitor visas for business or tourism (B1/B2s and BCCs), and other non-petition based NIVs such as student and exchange visitor visas, will increase from $160 to $185.  “The fee for certain petition-based nonimmigrant visas for temporary workers (H, L, O, P, Q, and R categories) will increase from $190 to $205. INEC warns of fake online registration portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has alerted Nigerians of the existence of a fake online site urging Nigerians to enroll for "voter card pvc" registration.   This comes barely 24 hours after INEC announced the suspension of voter registration across the country.   The fake online portal claimed that the Federal Government has approved PVC registration online to avoid the unnecessary crowd in the "NIMC".   INEC warned that the site is not linked to the Commission and the link/portal is spurious and from a dubious source.   The Commission said INEC is the only body constitutionally and legally mandated to conduct the registration of persons qualified to vote in any election in Nigeria and to update and revise the register when the need arises.   It reiterated that the Commission is solely responsible for organizing, undertaking, and supervising national elections in the country and does not share this responsibility with anybod...
