We need to regulate fertility - FG

The federal government has said that there is need to regulate birth rate in the country to achieve sustainable development.

 

Daily Trust reported that Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, said this in Abuja on Thursday July 2, at the celebration of the World Population Day, organised by the National Population Commission (NPC).

 

Ehanire who was represented by Director, Family Health, Salma Ibrahim Anas, said it would be difficult for Nigeria to achieve its Sustainable Development Goals with current 5.3 fertilty average in the country.

 

He said; 

 

“We must regulate fertility, without fertility regulation, we’re going nowhere. This is actually the key to unlock the success of sustainable development in Nigeria and the Ministry of Health has positioned itself to fulfill this purpose.”

The Federal Government has cautioned opposition politicians against making claims it says could damage Nigeria’s reputation internationally amid criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris issued the warning in a statement addressing public debate over Tinubu’s decision to delegate Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation.
