Nigeria will see positive changes as we move along after going through these baby steps of pains - Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has asked Nigerians to endure what he described as baby steps of pain following some economic reforms he embarked on since his inauguration on May 29. 

 

Speaking during a private visit to the palace of the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday, June 29, Tinubu stated that he is still taking baby steps and not in a hurry. 

 

He said; 

 

“Let’s be united. Let’s be focused. No distractions. We will arrive at the positive destination for this country and it’s all in our hands. By the grace of God Almighty, we shall reap the fruit of our labour.

“Nigeria will see positive changes as we move along, just go through these baby steps of pains. Me too, I am taking baby steps as the president, not marching in a hurry, be ready to listen, maintain an open door policy, let the freedom flow, let the confidence return to Nigeria. This country is the only country we have. I have been a refugee. I know what it’s to be a refugee.”

A report by FITC has revealed that bank customers in Nigeria lost N472m to fraud in the first quarter of 2023. It was also disclosed that there was a total of 12,553 cases of fraud recorded within this period. This was according to the Q1 report obtained by The PUNCH from the website of FITC. Lagos clarifies sanitation modalities, warns defaulters ahead of April 25

The Lagos State Government has provided further details on the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise, set to resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026, with movement restrictions and enforcement measures in place. In a statement on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said, “The exercise will hold every last Saturday of the month between the hours of 6:30 am and 8:30 am. Mobile phones to be banned in state school classrooms in UK

Headteachers in the UK will be told to ban pupils from using mobile phones during the entire school day under new government guidance. The Department for Education wants children to be barred from using devices on breaks as well as in class. Education Secretary Gillian Keegan will announce the plans at the Conservative Party conference on Monday, October 2.   The government already encourages head teachers to limit phone usage and many schools have restrictions in place.   Gillian Keegan will ban smartphones from classrooms both during lessons and in break times to ensure pupils can concentrate, the Daily Mail reported. IBEDC to upgrade metering system

The Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has announced an upcoming upgrade for its Standard Transfer Specification prepaid meters to enhance efficiency and align with global standards. The upgrade, known as Token Identification Rollover, aims to ensure the continued seamless operation of prepaid meters while maintaining customer satisfaction.  A statement signed by the Managing Director of IBEDC, Kingsley Achife, said the upgrade scheduled to take effect from August 1, 2023, would involve the integration of a global software update into STS meters, making them compatible with the new TID Rollover protocol. “This upgrade is imperative as starting from November 24, 2024; all STS meters worldwide will cease to accept old credit tokens without the necessary meter upgrade. Thugs Linked To Senator Ubah Attack Capital Oil Workers Demanding Four-year Unpaid Salaries

Workers of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, who convened at Sanya Truck Park in Lagos to deliberate on their unpaid four-year salaries and unremitted pension of over 10 years, have been attacked by thugs linked to the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. The thugs were led by one Onyeka Ifemenam, a Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers official (Capital Oil VIO). It was learnt that Ifemenam had earlier had a discussion with one of the workers, Akujobi Ozoemena Barnaby, on October 5, 2020, and said he was instructed by Ubah to warn the workers to end the agitations against him or will be attacked.
