Time to appoint a disabled person as minister - Albino Foundation president tells Tinubu

Jake Epelle, the CEO of The Albino Foundation (TAF Africa), has urged President Bola Tinubu to prove his government is really an inclusive one by appointing a person with disability  as minister.

Epelle said there can’t be peace without looking at the issue of inclusivity.


“For too long, there has been non-participation of persons with disability in the cabinet. This is the right time and if this president wants to make a mark, this is the right time to give the community of persons with disability at least one minister." Epelle told Channels Television.


“I don’t care if it’s the minister of state or the main minister, we need to sit at the Federal Executive Council and make decisions for the betterment of this country,” Epelle said.


He also urged state governors to appoint persons with disability as commissioners, saying that they are tired of being appointed only as Special Assistants.

Manchester United confirm the loan signing of Wout Weghorst until the end of the 2022-2023 season

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Wout Weghorst on loan until the end of the 2022-2023 season.    The 30-year-old has joined from the Clarets to fill the hole left in Erik ten Hag's squad by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, who had his contract terminated by mutual consent in November.   Weghorst was on loan at Besiktas until the end of this season, but United have paid the Turkish club £2.6million, via Burnley, to terminate their agreement with the Clarets early, which has allowed the forward to complete the switch to United.   United do not have an option or obligation to make the deal permanent in the summer.   “I feel privileged to be joining Manchester United. Fourth person cured of HIV

A man who has lived with HIV since the 1980s has become the fourth person to be cured of the disease as announced by AIDS researchers on Wednesday July 27.   The 66-year-old man named the "City of Hope" patient after the Californian center where he was treated, was cured of HIV after receiving a stem cell transplant for leukaemia.   He was declared in remission in the lead up to the International AIDS Conference, which begins in Montreal, Canada on Friday.   While the transplant was planned to treat the now-66-year-old's leukaemia, the doctors also sought a donor who was naturally resistant to the virus that causes AIDS, a mechanism that first worked to cure the "Berlin patient", Timothy Ray Brown, in 2007.   As well as being the oldest, the patient has also had HIV the longest, having been diagnosed in 1988 with what he described as a "death sentence" that killed many of his friends.   He has been on antiretroviral therapy (ART) to control his conditi...

Police arrest recently released inmate for car snatching, recover vehicle

Officers of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected car snatchers along Egbeda Road at about 1:30am on Sunday, July 24, shortly after they snatched a Toyota Corolla 2000 model with registration number LND-664-GF.  The suspects identified as Abiodun Nurudeen, 36, and Anthony Richard, 45, both recently released on May 05, 2022 and June 04, 2022 respectively from Ikoyi Correctional facility, were arrested following a tip-off from civic-minded members of the public.    Preliminary investigation reveals that the vehicle was snatched around Lekki, Lagos State.   Confirming their arrest to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said while investigation is ongoing, the owner of the vehicle needs to come forward with proof of ownership to claim the vehicle.   He added that the suspects would be arraigned at the conclusion of the investigation.
