Time to appoint a disabled person as minister - Albino Foundation president tells Tinubu

Jake Epelle, the CEO of The Albino Foundation (TAF Africa), has urged President Bola Tinubu to prove his government is really an inclusive one by appointing a person with disability  as minister.

Epelle said there can’t be peace without looking at the issue of inclusivity.


“For too long, there has been non-participation of persons with disability in the cabinet. This is the right time and if this president wants to make a mark, this is the right time to give the community of persons with disability at least one minister." Epelle told Channels Television.


“I don’t care if it’s the minister of state or the main minister, we need to sit at the Federal Executive Council and make decisions for the betterment of this country,” Epelle said.


He also urged state governors to appoint persons with disability as commissioners, saying that they are tired of being appointed only as Special Assistants.

The Delta State Government has shut down a primary school in Asaba following the death of a 19-month-old pupil, Obina Udeze.   Baby Obinna died from injuries sustained after his teacher, Emeka Nwogbo, allegedly flogged him last Monday February 7, leaving marks on his body. The little boy fell ill and was admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba where he died on Saturday, February 12.   Reacting to the sad incident, the state Commissioner for Basic Education Chika Ossai, said the investigation showed the school was not approved by the state government. He said the school has been shut down as the proprietor does not have an operational license.   The accused teacher is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing.

Ray Stevenson, actor in 'Thor,' 'RRR' and 'Ahsoka,' dies at 58

British actor, Ray Stevenson, best known for starring roles in “Punisher: War Zone” and the “Rome” television show, has died at the age of 58.   Stevenson died on Sunday May 21 , four days before his 59th birthday,  his publicist confirmed in a statement. A cause of death has not been given.   The Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported he had been hospitalized on the island of Ischia while in production on the film Cassino on Ischia, directed by Frank Ciota.   The Peter Mayhew Foundation, set up by the actor who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars films, tweeted: “We are sad to hear of the passing of Ray Stevenson.   “You may recognize Ray as Baylon Skoll from the upcoming Ahsoka show on Disney+. FG, labour talks collapse, NLC begins strike Aug 14

Barely 24 hours after meeting with President Bola Tinubu where an agreement was reached to call off their protests, the rapprochement between the organised labour and the Federal Government appeared to have collapsed as the unions on Thursday night vowed to embark on a nationwide strike from August 14 if their leaders were summoned for contempt of court orders.  The Nigeria Labour Congress hinged its decision on the contempt of court application filed by the Federal Ministry of Justice against the labour leaders on Wednesday. It threatened to down tools should the Federal Government fails to withdraw the lawsuit accusing the labour leadership of disobeying court orders. The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, announced the decision on Thursday night after the union’s National Executive Council meeting which was held in Abuja.
