Three APC members die in auto crash on their way to Abuja for 10th National Assembly inauguration

Three members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Imo State have died in a road accident on their way to Abuja for the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly. 
 
It was gathered that the bus they were travelling in had a head-on collision with another vehicle along Agbor road in Delta State in the early hours of Monday, June 12. 
 
Others who sustained injury in the accident were taken to the hospital for treatment.
 
 
Two of the deceased, both males, are from Amaraku, while the other is a woman from Ogbor all in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.
 
They were going to support Patrick Ndubueze, the Senator-elect for Okigwe Zone, and Miriam Onuoha Okigwe North Federal Constituency for the inauguration to be held on Tuesday, June 3. 
 
Spokesperson of the party in Imo state, Cajetan Duke described the incident as a sad development.
 
“They were travelling in two buses. It is a sad development. The party is saddened by the development. We pray God accept their souls,” he said.

Kevin Spacey pleads 'not guilty' to sexual assault charges in UK

Actor Kevin Spacey has pleaded "not guilty" to additional sexual-assault charges filed against him in the United Kingdom.   The 63-year-old star of Oscar-winning film “American Beauty” and drama series “House of Cards” appeared at Southwark Crown Court in south London today, January 13, via video link.    This is coming after he was slammed with fresh charges involving one man in November, taking the total number of charges he faces in the UK to 12. U.K.'s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said in a statement at the time;    "The CPS has authorized additional criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 63, for a number of sexual assaults against one man between 2001 and 2004. "The CPS has also authorized one charge of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent. Detainee caught after fleeing from bus taking him to prison in escape attempt

A detainee being transferred to a Rikers Island jail in New York bolted from a transportation bus and hid under a trailer before he was recaptured, Correction Department officials said Thursday January 12. The detainee took off from the bus outside the Anna M. Kross Center about 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 11 as he was being dropped off.   He ran and hid under a trailer for some period and was then apprehended, officials said. “We take all escape attempts very seriously. Our acted quickly and apprehended the detainee within minutes in the secure area,” Correction Department spokeswoman Shayla Mulzac said. “This incident is under investigation.”

Lagos state govt rescues widow from ejection by inlaws

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency have rescued a  widow who was about to be forcefully ejected from her home by her late husband’s brothers.   A statement released by the Agency today January 13, says the widow whose husband died on Tuesday 10th of January 2023 had a toddler and is also pregnant. The widow was allegedly beaten in the process of trying to forcefully eject her from her home.   According to the statement, the Executive Secretary, Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi assigned DSVA Field officers alongside officers of the police (Alausa Police Station) who were immediately dispatched to the home where the incident occurred    "After series of engagements with the disputing parties we were able to restore peace even as an undertaken was made to ensure the widow and her child were safe in their home. Suspected bandits kidnap DPO in Plateau

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.    It was gathered that the police officer popularly called SP Lareee, was abducted on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at WOKTORI Hotel in Pankshin.   It was further learnt that the police officer had just resumed posting as the DPO in the area a day before his abduction.   A policeman in the council area, who confirmed the development to the  Punch  in Jos, Thursday night, said the DPO was kidnapped by the gunmen after they shot him in his hotel room.    "The DPO was just posted to Pankshin about three days ago. He was staying in a hotel in Pankshin and was in that hotel when the gunmen came and shot him before taking him away. Since then, we have not seen him.” the source said.
