NLC denies plans to begin strike today over fuel subsidy removal

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has dismissed rumors that it is planning to embark on a strike today June 2, over the removal of petrol subsidy.

 

There have been rumors that the NLC had fixed Friday to commence a strike in protest against the subsidy removal.

 

Reacting, the head of information and public affairs of NLC, Benson Upah, asked Nigerians to disregard the rumor.

“Our attention has been drawn to stories circulating in the social media claiming that the NLC would begin protest action on June 2 against the increase in the pump price of petrol. In as much as we are outraged by this mindless price increase which is intended to bring untold hardship to Nigerians, we have no plan to start any action on June 2. What we do have for now are organ meetings slated for June 2 to deliberate on the price issue.”he said

Upah said the NLC would keep Nigerians informed on its next line of action after meetings.

Police exhume Mohbad's body for an autopsy to be carried out

The police in Lagos state have exhumed the body of singer Mohbad today September 21.   Recall that the 27-year-old singer died on September 12 in controversial circumstances. He was buried the next day, September 13, in Ikorodu Lagos.    Nigerians demanded that an autopsy be carried out following the startling revelations of him being harassed and assaulted while he was alive.   The Lagos state police command on Monday, September 19, set up a 13-man committee to carry out a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his demise.   The committee is expected to turn in its report in two weeks.

Nigerian man faces 20 years imprisonment in US for fraud and money laundering

A Nigerian national who was indicted in April 2021 in connection with a large fraud and money laundering scheme is facing 20 years imprisonment after pleading guilty before a United States jury on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.  According to court documents and statements made in connection with the plea hearing, Kenneth Emeni, 29, a citizen of Nigeria residing in Martinsburg, was involved from at least August 2017 to October 8, 2020, with Kenneth Ogudu, also known as Kenneth Lee, John Nassy, Romello Thorpe, Oluwagbenga Harrison, Ouluwabamishe Awolesi, and others in a money laundering conspiracy that took place in Huntington and elsewhere.  Emeni lived in Huntington from August 2017 to December 2019.  As part of the scheme, Emeni’s co-conspirators created online false personas and contacted victims via email, text messaging or online dating and social media websites in order to induce the victims into believing they were in a romantic relationship, friendship or business...

Residents of Kara in Sagamu Local government area were in amazing shock when they found a picture of an Oyibo man (white man) inside a calabash which contains eggs, palm oil and other fetish items. According to an eye witness, he said this is not the first time of things like this happening in the community as almost every young guy in Kara Sabo wants to own a car or get rich over night, hence the struggle for blood money.
