20-year-old woman stabbed by robber who snatched her phone

A 20-year-old woman, Augustina Andrew, has been stabbed by an armed robber at North Kwesimintsim in Takoradi after he succeeded in snatching her phone.

According to some residents, the timely intervention of a neighbor who transported her to the hospital saved Augustina from possible death since she was bleeding profusely.

Augustina shared her ordeal with Citi News.

“I was walking back from work, so I decided to go and buy food. On my way coming, I saw a man coming, but I was thinking he was also going to buy something, but did not get some to buy.”

“I was using my phone and the phone’s torch was on, so I did not see anything, all I heard was ‘Fa phone nu bra’ (bring the phone). When I raised my head, he was holding a knife. He was walking towards me, so I was moving back, so I slipped, and I held his shirt and we both fell. He took the phone from me and thought I was struggling with him so that is how come he stabbed me on my arms and leg and went away with the phone.”

According to a resident, the incident is yet to be reported to the police since the victim was hospitalized for days.

Boko Haram, soldiers in gun fight, as residents flee

Boko Haram insurgents, yesterday, engaged soldiers in a gun fight in Maiduguri, forcing  residents to flee their homes. A resident, Zainab Kamali, said the insurgents struck in Jidari area of the city about 5pm.  “We were forced to abandon our homes for the bush… there’s serious confusion,” Kamali said.  Another resident who did not want his name in print, said the insurgents moved around the city as they were engaged by the military.  He said the sect attempted to infiltrate the town through Polo axis but were repelled by soldiers.  “They were at the cashew plantation axis of Maiduguri but soldiers engaged them in a serious battle,” he said. NYSC explains why corps members are yet to receive June allowance

The National Youth Service Corps has explained why there is a delay in the payment of June allowance to corps members.    According to NYSC management, it completed all arrangements for the payment since June 27. The service corps said the delay being currently experienced is due to the administration of funds by various banks who are yet to credit Corps Members’ accounts.   NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, said in a statement;   “The Management of National Youth Service Corps wishes to state that it is aware of worries and agitations by corps members over the delay in the payment of their June 2023 monthly allowance. “For the avoidance of doubt, the scheme completed all arrangements for the payment of corps members’ allowance since June 27, 2023, and remittances were made the same day to various banks accordingly. “The delay being currently experienced is due to the administration of funds by various banks who are yet to credit Corps Members’ accoun
